  1. Now I will have to go out next weekend! This is just killing me!
  2. Well much like you he has fished all his life and if it were a smaller fish I think he wouldn't be as proud about then there would it be real significant to him? Probably but if it were something he could show off to friends I am willing to bet he would be much more happy with a larger fish.
  3. Things like this annoy the hell out of me I love the guy who lands a nice sized fish next to me on the river and I compliment him by saying " hey nice fish" and he says they are all nice fish and goes back fishing... haha ya its kind of arrogant, but I don't mind the sarcasim too much mostly because I myself am very sarcastic. I like your thinking Big Dave. I was thinking this weekend if my grandfather catches a nice fish I would get it mounted for him to remind us of the day we could all spend on the boat fishing.
  4. This is a loaded question but poundage wise what would you consider as a wall hanger? This goes for any Trout or Salmon. Brown: 15lbs. + Laker: 18lbs. + Salmon: 18lbs. + These are just my numbers I would like to hear what the rest of you think. I am asking because we caught a brown a couple weekends ago that tipped the scales around 13-14lbs. and I was considering getting it mounted but ate it instead.
  5. Sorry that is what I meant. My fingers were typing faster than I was thinking.
  6. Shhh don't give up all the secrets....haha I too have had a lot better luck with the korcodile spoons. 2 weekends ago we stopped trolling to make a little breakfast and my buddy started throwing a Kroc and hooked up with a few smaller ones only 30' from the edge of the shore.
  7. I was thinking the same thing. I haven't seen any reports of salmon being caught. I am hoping to catch at least one nice one soon!
  8. i use the heavier 15lb. stren and semed ok. The first 40 yards was very brittle for some reason. Did it break at either end of the leader or somewhere between the lure and where it is tied to the other line? I had a knot break like sewing thread when I was tying it to my main line.
  9. It was nice to meet you Bob and thanks again for the awesome net!
  10. Thats awesome. If I had a motor that got that kind of gas mileage I could cut my on board tank in half. I get about 2 miles to the gallon, if I troll for 8 hours I use 8-10 gallons (if I troll with my big motor.) When my big motor takes a dump I will definitely be buying an e tec. 2 stroke power and price with the efficency of a 4 stroke. Truely awesome.
  11. Every time it would get within 10' of the boat it would spool out 150' of line it did that 4 times. He was trying to muscle it in but the rod tip jumped the one time and it looked like he pulled it out but the rear hook dug in and allowed us to land it. When the rod tip jumped up that was after 20mins. haha it was fun and well worth it. I'm not running the strongest line but it seems to do the job.
  12. I keep mine down but my father in law leaves his up because he says "it puts pressure on the hydrualic pistons." he thinks his went bad from that but I have stored mine down with no problems. Also I don't like the idea of water being able to freeze in the lower unit from being tilted up.
  13. Nice looking fish! I was going to head out but had some projects that needed to get finished and thet boat needed a good wash.
  14. Is that water temp from henderson? If its that warm already the walleyes will be moving out sooner. That might make it hard for walleye opener. I wouldn't get caught keeping any walleyes right now. The season closed March 15th and won't be opening until 1st Sat in May. Figured I would give everyone else the heads up so if there are some of our law enforcment lurking around.
  15. haha next time I will be sure to invite ya over. we can have ourselves a redneck yacht club....
  16. I am running 8ft. 15lb. flourocarbon leaders and didn't have a single one break even with 12lb and 14.5lb browns. Sounds like your drags were a little too tight. Both fish fought hard 25 minutes for the smaller one and 37 minutes for the larger one. We couldn't shut the motor down in worry of tangling our lines.
  17. Ya you need shore power. Is this a chevy motor? If so you should be able to pull the thermostat housing and pour anit-freeze down in your block.
  18. Nice to meet you. I too use the homemade boards and they work great. I had to make some small modifications but nothing worth mentioning. I will have to post some info on my mast and afew pics if I get a chance. Welcome aboard!
  19. Get yourself a Compact flourescent 100w on a drop light and throw it in there. They do NOT spark when they blow, they have a catalyst that heats up but does not spark. Add that to a fire blanket over top the engine and your golden. The CFL won't be 100w but equivalent to a incandescent 100w bulb, it will put out plenty of heat without the danger of an explosion.
  20. Ya we caught a few smaller ones ~12" off a krocodile silver with silver ribbon. We were cooking a little breakfast when we were anchored. I brough out my little buddy heater that runs off a propane tank. Worked pretty good and the eggs tasted great out on the water.
  21. I think that was you guys. Sorry for coming up behind you so close, my buddy was driving. You guys had your boat parked off the road to the Coast Guard Station?
  22. Ya that was us we did pretty well. I was thinking of going east and trolling in front of the bluffs. I was thinking the bait would wash up and push the trout up close to shore. Maybe next time its a W/SW wind.
