  1. Is the baron an I/O? I have a uncle in law with one and it is an awesome boat to fish from. Either way you go get the longest and widest! It's never long enough. Haha no pun intended. [ Post made via iPod ]
  2. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Total Boated: Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Just wondered if anyone was planning a Sodus trip this weekend. It looks like the bite is starting to move a little deeper judging by the reports. I might end up running some deep divers with short leads if this is the case. I was going to plan a trip for the last weekend in April before I take th boat up to Chaumont for Walleye.
  3. How deep of water were you guys in? Nice looking enclosure you have there.
  4. Ya they are. I am just going to have the actual fish mounted when I catch one worthy enough. Most taxidermists want around $3 more an inch. For most fish thats another $100!
  5. I generally use the NOAA site. Most of the time if it is out of the S, SW, SE your golden. Out of the N, NE, and NW your not going on the lake anytime soon. Out of the E, or W all is determined on the wind speed anything over 15mph is usually on the rough side (depending on the boat.) I like using www.intellicast.com and just punch in sodus point NY and it comes up with the forecast for the bay.
  6. That is like the DEC officer that saw 6 poles on my boat and only me. He comes over and goes "I thought I saw more than 2 poles." I go to him "Its not illegal to have more than 2 poles in your possession." He states "but it to fish with more than 2" mind you these were trolling rods and I was anchored talking to a friend on my cell phone about my depth finder not working correctly. He gave me a bunch of more crap and I told him I am leaving but feel free to stay. Gotta love those guys on a power trip.
  7. I wrap the rubber band around the line 3 times then put 1 loop thru the second loop. I then take the remaining loop and connect it thru a shower curtian ring. I was trying to break the band by yanking across the boat instead of to the back. That makes sense. Wow what was I thinking? [ Post made via iPod ]
  8. Thanks, he is a great fabricator.
  9. He cut out the letters at his work with a CNC laser. For those who are wondering it cost me $450 total for materials, his time and supplies.
  10. Here is a photo of a live well my buddy made me. It has a 25 gallon main well and a 12 gallon bait well. The bottom is for coolers and whatever else you can stuff under it. I also have a 128 qt. cooler seat going in front of it.
  11. How do you guys get the rubberbands to break on lighter fish. We ended up dragging some fish until they finally broke the rubberband with us ripping on the pole. I use the red rubber bands from Weldon.
  12. For the cost of a otter board I can buy a skillsaw, blade, lumber, paint, sand paper, and fasteners. The cost to me doesn't out weigh the benefits. My homemade boards pull hard enough to do what I want and are stable enough for me in rought water. I suggest starting out with homemades and moving up when and if you need too.
  13. I think I would just run from sodus over to them. I just figured if I saw a lot of boats over by maxwell area then I would try the other direction to get away from the crowd.
  14. Ya I am a big fan of Storm lures I will pick a few up tonight. Has anyone tried to the East towards East Bay or port bay? I was thinking of heading out that direction but I can't argue of where we have been catching them. I could alwyas make the run all the way back but would like to save on gas and not have to burn up 20 gallons in gas.
  15. Do you guys recommend a certain brand firetiger? I don't have any in my box but seem like I need to get a few.
  16. I've pulled my homemades AND otter boats with my big jons, no problem. PS: so far Also, I use shower clips and rubber bands for my releases. How do you get the rubber bands to break on light hits? I pulled a fish for a while mostly because it would not break. I could see the band stretch but even with a hard jerk of the rod it still wouldn't break. I use the red bands by weldon tackle.
  17. Sorry bud, according to the rules,a sailing vessel always has the right of way. There is discussion about that being true when the vessel is under engine power, but as a rule of fist, it is the rag boat that has right of way. I thought that was only true if they were sailing, not under power.
  18. O so Margretta has docks in? That is where we normally launch out of but don't mind the coast guard station. When does the coast guard generally close their launch?
  19. Are you coming from the north or south because that would make a world of difference?
  20. Did anyone go out of Sodus? Think they going to have th docks in this week? I wasn't able to get out for the opening day shakedown. I needed to get a lot of stuff around the house done (gotta love the Honey-Do list.) haha
  21. I fish out of Chaumont Bay starting May 1st until late september. I start with Walleye then move onto perch and smallies. Pike are caught anytime throughout the season pretty much anywhere in the area. Henderson isn't far from where we catch and sell a LOT of perch. In a weekend we can do anywhere between 50lbs. - 200lbs. of perch. We have fun catching them and pay for the gas in the boat. There are a quite a few charters in that area for trout, salmon, and walleye. A few to mention are Lots a Limits, Moby Dick, and if your looking to just fish with someone, ME! haha either way you can't go wrong. My father-in-law and I have larger boats (21' & 23' ocean boats) but are worth their weight in gold when it comes to the chop you can get out there.
  22. I agree 200% I always get a good laugh at those people. I saw a guy in a mini van with a single axle trying to back his trailer in without the boat, on the 5th try he got it. The when he proceeded to pull out he floored the van, he forgot to put the outboard up and drag the skeg at least 50'. We had some younger kids in front of us in line and we all out just BS-ing with each other and the one kid yelled "Watch if you want to learn how to ruin a boat!" all of us in line died laughing. The guy with shorter skeg was a total idiot and a jerk to top it off. If you can't laugh at yourself or don't know enough to stop when you hear something dragging you shouldn't be driving a boat.
  23. Ugg I was going to be out but left the boat key down in Lindley with the boat up in Newark! ugghhh. Next weekend I will have to make a trip! Lets hope the Kings are moving in!
