  1. Keep and eye out in the classifieds for deals on gear there is usually a lot of good stuff on there. Also make sure you watch craigslist lots of deals coming this winter!!
  2. What are you planning on fishing for? The trench out in front of Henderson Bay is HOT for trout and salmon right now. Bass fishing has been hit and miss all year. Walleyes are up towards Canada waters near St. Lawerence mouth/Cape Vincent.
  3. That is too cool. I always wondered what it looked like under the boat when I went over a bait cloud.
  4. Last weekend I was in the trench and caught a good king. I will be up there this coming weekend to try and get on some fish. When we're you planning on heading out there? [ Post made via iPod ]
  5. I have one already and is one of the nicest rods I have used. Great action and super durable. I got in contact with Walker Downriggers because they offer a rod but is not available to purchase (included with a purchase of a new downrigger.) So I am just trying to find another manufacturer that makes them. They go by many names I have heard spiral wrap as well.
  6. I am looking for a trolling rod that utilizes the acid wrap. Is there a manufacturer that builds them? I found the Cabelas Fish Eagle II use this style but I wanted it in 8' 6" and non telescoping. If anyone word know of another manufacturer or better a place I could buy some that would be great. Thanks, Chas
  7. Well I am no pro but the spin dr. is a good color from what I have used and caught fish. I like to run the same depth unless I am not getting a hit then work out deeper. What color flies are you running and where are you fishing location wise? If you look at the south or north shore reports a lot of them say depth of catch and the producing lure for the day. Sounds like you have a good start just need some fine tuning. The biggest thing you have to do is clue us in on is the location you are going out of...
  8. I will give both a shot and see which works better for me i guess. I was leaning towards tacking because I can keep the rods a good distance away from one another.
  9. Should I run 2 rods stacked on my rigger or should I run my stacker release as a fixed cheater? I am planning on running a Spin Dr. off the ball with a fly so would a fixed cheater just get tangled constantly when it releases? OR Would I get more tangles stacking the rigger? On a side note I have plenty of poles so using an extra pole on the rigger isn't an issue. Thanks, Chas
  10. O ok thanks. I thought she was a coho, thanks for clearing that up.
  11. I hate to say it's because of the economy but it is leading me to think. The worst part about it is that you know it's another fisherman. It's a shame you can't trust anyone anymore.
  12. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Sea Mist ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 9/1/12 Time on Water: 4 hours Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 1-2 Surface Temp: 71 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated: 1 Species Breakdown: King Hot Lure: Atomik and Howie Flys Trolling Speed: 2.5 Down Speed: Boat Depth: Started in 90 but mostly in 130 Lure Depth: 100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Got on the water around 11am headed straight to the trench from Chaumont. Setup in 70fow and started trolling. I trolled into 90fow without a hit but marked a good amount of bait towards the bottom. I ran the dipsys out to 250 and 300 on #2 setting over 100fow. I had 1 hook up in 90 fow ran off about 50' of braid then dropped it. 2nd hook up was on my turn inside rod down 250, it produced 21lb King. 3rd hit was when I was fighting the Coho it hit then dropped it. Not bad for my first time on the trench and with dipsys.
  13. Aint that the truth. My buddies want top go fishing on the opener of bow but my wife and i want to hunt. [ Post made via Android ]
  14. I personally like my pro line its an off shore fishing boat with tons of room to fish almost the same as a Grady. Fiberglass is the way to go when it comes to big water fishing much heavier and absorbs the chop a lot better than aluminum. Like mentioned before don't rush into buying something that could work for you when there is a boat that will work for you. [ Post made via Android ]
  15. Thanks i cant imagine more. It was hard as it was navigating thru the boats that were out there. [ Post made via Android ]
  16. I was out in the trench today went 1for 3. Tons of boats, at one point i counted 30 boats.i thought walleye was bad in the spring. Next time i am making my wife go with me. Netting a 21lb. Coho is tough on your own.not to mention the whole steering thing. [ Post made via Android ]
  17. Add a wrap of teflon to the threads and she wont back out [ Post made via Android ]
  18. If you can find one try proline. Made out of Florida and handle rough water amazing. We have been out in 6'ers and have stayed dry while riding the trough. [ Post made via Android ]
  19. I only pump the rod if I need to turn the fish otherwise I try to fight the fish just by reeling or pump really slow. I have seen a lot of nice fish lost from horsing the fish too hard.
  20. Gotcha, Why didn't you guys just say this in the first place? haha
  21. I am considering making my own trolling flys. Have you guys tried the Trans UV Extreme? What are some good color combinations you guys like?
  22. You thread them on the leader so they slide down to the head of the fly?
