  1. I mounted 4 LED accent lights in my boat for this reason. I have not tried them at night to see how much light is given off but they should do the trick. I will report back when I have an answer.
  2. If your casting have a pole rigged up with a mepps #2 or #3 red with white stripes. We use that regularly when casting for bass in June and pick up a few nice walleye that way too. When I troll its usually in 20-30 FOW up in lake ontario (Chaumont bay area)
  3. We generally run thunder sticks, Thunder stick Jrs, Matzuos, bombers, and rapalas. Pretty much anything that is a deep diver. Leads in the 100'-175' range and planer boards. Depending on the depth of the fish we will run shorter leads to keep the deep diver baits higher in the water column. Colors I always use are silver black, and silver blue always good producers. I don't have a Ship-to-shore but if you see a 23' W/A boat with the name Sea Mist thats me!
  4. I think I will be adding Auto Pilot to my boat next year. MinnKota has the PowerDrive V2 electric trolling motor with GPS autopilot. I think I will be adding that to my list of goodies. I will set it up to steer and still use my kicker to power the boat forward. I have heard about this setup being done before and working great. Anyone have any input on the idea? Here is the link for the iPilot system. iPilot Thanks, Chas
  5. Looks like I will be giving Sodus a shot on Sat. I would rather it be Sunday but I am taking the boat to Chaumont that day. The wave models seem to have the waves subsiding around 11am to 1' so looks like the later the better. Not only that my buddies will be out on the town in Oswego friday night so they won't make it to the dock until 9am anyway. Wish me luck, Chas
  6. fox and grenadier normally house walleyes later in the season in June of course that is also 30 FOW
  7. It's funny because she said unless she can sit there and sun bath while fishing then she doesn't want to go. She is what her father and I call a fair weather hunter/fishermen. She won't hunt or fish if its below 40* haha. Me on the other hand I hunt and fish whenever possible.
  8. I try that all the time but my wife hates trolling. She loves perch jerkin and bass fishing but no trolling for her.
  9. Saturday might be a bust. I just looked at the forecast and 2-3'ers. A few of my buddies and I are hoping to get out of Sodus on Sat. but we might not be fishing at all this weekend.
  10. It depends on the size. Smaller ones eat better, but there is a trick to filleting the bigger ones. There is a yellowish color between the skin and fillet that needs to be removed. They taste a ton better if you take the time to trim that off. Its basically fat, it works the same way as deer. The more fat left on the meat the gamier it tastes.
  11. We caught a nice 13 pounder 2 years ago now. Its the fish in my avatar.
  12. I will be out in Chaumont! It will be the first time out in my boat, I will have about 8 guys to fish.
  13. I know the feeling. In Chaumont if you catch 6 walleyes in a day you are doing really well. On a normal day we will catch around 4 walleyes about 6-8lbs. All them are by trolling stickbaits. I like the trout action more than walleye but the trout move into deeper water quickly so I have no choice to move onto walleye or invest a lot more money into equipment, and gas to get out deeper.
  14. I thought the zebra mussells were more of an asset than a pest. I must be missing something.
  15. Well this week will keep them pulled in with the temps in the lower to mid 40s. My father-in-law and I have been wondering the same thing. Generally we fish the month of May in the bays then start heading out towards deeper water on our trolls to find them in mid April. I think we should be fine in the bays but I have a feeling the fish are going to be a little bit bigger than usual because of the early spawn. Good luck and tight lines! Chas
  16. I am planning a trip out of Sodus on Sat. with a few friends I hope it starts to settle down a little more or I will be running the rigger stacked instead of boards.
  17. You hear about loosing people in the ocean more often than the lake but people don't realize is that it's just as dangerous big or small.
  18. The idea is to keep it dry or alive which ever is easier for you. My father and I have used rope through their mouths and drop them over the edge of the boat tied to a cleat. This will ensure the fish stays a live for the trip and add a few extra lbs. of water to its belly.
  19. You can always drop in Chaumont bay if you don't keep it in a slip. We do the majority of our fishing in Chaumont from 1st weekend in May to October. If we get a good W WSW wind we will go to the other side of Cherry Island and fish. We launch out of Long Point State park.
  20. Great thanks a lot. The wife keeps riding me about an enclosure for the early season to keep her dry. I tell her the cuddy will keep her dry but wants to be out with the action. Can't say I blame her.
  21. Those look nasty! Here is to hoping it calms down a little before this weekend.
  22. Is the trailer 28' or from the bow stop to the back of the trailer 28'? Don't take this the wrong way but you are asking more than what a new one goes for.
  23. Ya it looked fimilar. What year is it? Is it a walk around cuddy? I am planning on getting a top just like yours. Would you be able to take a few photos and e-mail them too me? I will pm you my e-mail. [ Post made via iPod ]
  24. Freeze them. Are you talking about once you catch them and put them in a cooler? The worst thing you can do is let a dead fish sit in water. We freeze milk jugs and put them in a cooler with the fish and no water and they keep their color.
