  1. I guess I will have to ask my next dead turkey if it was a 3" or 3.5" shell that killed him.
  2. I saw this house of a puppy at the elosta show. He is one awesome looking dog.
  3. I have snuck up on them without decoys and it is fun! But, I was also in the middle of private land. That being said, last year I was on PRIVATE Land and sitting on a field edge with 2 decoys about 12 yds away. I had a bird answering to my call when I heard another "hen" on the other side of the property line. Long story short after calling 5-10 minutes a tom with prob a 5-6 " beard comes out to field edge and starts to strut in front of me but is 60 yds away. I call every once in awhile and he hammers right back each time but won't come any closer. After awhile the "hen" starts coming closer and then stops calling all together. Again, I am on the field EDGE not in the woods and decoys are out in 6" high alfalfa. You know how things happen in a split second so I will explain the best I can. I see the hay between me and the decoys get blown over and hear the BANG! The tom flies right towards me, and flies away. I yell" What the &%^$ was that" and start running towards where the shot came from. I get to the wood line and can hear this "hunter" running up the other side of the gully. I found his empty a 3.5" lead 6. Not only did he miss the bird at less than 20 yds, he was looking directly out into the open field at my decoys and me! To say I was pissed would be an understatement. Moral of the story: I knew when I heard the "hen" what he was trying to do, I just figured that after I stopped hearing the call that he gave up trying because it was all POSTED ground. I never thought he would come over the line because that's something I wouldn't ever do. So I guess I learned (almost the real hard way) that you can't trust anybody to do the right thing if you don't know them.... Pretty sad. Sorry for the long post, got my heart rate up just writing this.
  4. 3" lead 6's. I have killed a couple at 40 yds with them. Hevi shot might be better but who wants to pay that much to kill a bird? 3.5" shell has a bigger payload but how much more dead does he need to be? You will get to remember the hunt longer with the 3.5" since you can look at the big a$$ bruise on your shoulder :ninja: That new stuff from Winchester(Longbeard XR i think) looks good from a range point of view, but I personally don't think it's as much fun shooting them that far away. All your preference I guess.
  5. Jim, You run just the squid bare like a streamer?
  6. Where is the ladder? I would like to take my twin 2 yr olds to see the fish swim through it.
  7. AQUAVIT. That stuff will smoke you quick!!
  8. Nice Job Brian. It was definitely good to put some names to faces! I enjoyed talking to LOU guys and sharing pics of retrievers as much as shopping for deals. Ruger is going to be a house of a dog! Bring on spring to winter
  9. Hooked on Kings, Dan's books have MUCH more info than the dvd's! I have them all and the books are great. Definitely worth the $$$ for the books.
  10. We're in. We won't be staying over since its only 45 minutes or so from home but I have never been on Otisco so I am looking forward to fishing a new lake. Hopefully we can find a fish or two! Can't wait for some water to thaw out around here!
  11. I would like to do it as well, just not sure about the date yet. Also something to think about, If for someone couldn't fish they could still show up for the weigh in and party right? Like you said, its more about meeting and putting names to the LOU faces! That way we could meet as many people as possible and not overwhelm the lake with traffic. Possibly even jump in for a night troll if someone had an open spot on board. Just a thought?

    Lead Core?

Thanks Pap. I kind of fell into the higher speed thing by accident but it works! Justin, Do you find at that high speed that they tend to hit at a constant speed or when you vary it up? Meaning on the inside or outside of turns or change the throttle for a little while? The best advice I have been given was by an old timer who said "Drive like your drunk  " meaning the worst thing you can do is drive straight.

    Lead Core?

I am thinking of getting some suffix 832. For those of you that have used it, do you get about the same results per color as Scott mentioned above? About 7-8 ft per color? I have had really good luck on Erie trolling fast with leadcore, about 2.5-2.8. Nothing new to you guys, most of the strikes came on the turns. Its really amazing to me to catch walleyes on the outside of a turn when you are going 2.8! Kinda shoots the "when you think you're going slow enough, go slower" theory all to hell
  14. I put a piece of tape on the reel and label it with a sharpie. That way when you change your set up you can pull off the tape and put on a new piece or just put a new piece over it and relabel it.
  15. Fish-on (Ralph) fixed 3 riggers for me and they work great! I don't know if he works on scotty's but I would shoot him a PM. He lives just east of Lansing on the east side of Cayuga. He was a big help to me
  16. I would agree with Jakey unless you can find a deal on the Magda's. I picked up a bunch of them at a LOTSA show for $33 a piece. I have 4 magda 30's for wire divers and they work good. I am just a recreational guy and they suit my purpose. If I were a charter I would go with something else like a convector, clarion , or saltist for the everyday pounding they would take.
  17. Thanks, I do the same thing with the small inline swivels for the connections. Makes it much easier to switch leaders when I go from the finger lakes to Lake O. Gill-T, Didn't know that about the Tuf-line. I will check into it. thanks
  18. Thanks Vet, I use Power pro on all my cores and coppers as well. How much backing could you get on that Diawa with a full 10 colors on it? I like the idea of the smaller diameter so you can fit it on a smaller reel as well.
  19. Hunting and fishing USA is running a 10% off their entire site sale. Check it out in the LOU sponsors section. Have the x4 and x4d
  20. I was wondering if anyone had tried this stuff yet? If so, does it dive 30% deeper like they claim? About how much depth per color did you find in your experience(obviously dependent on what presentation you were running)? What size reel did you need to fit say 10 colors or 5 colors? Thanks for any info.
