We will see what happens when I replace the drags. I've never had a problem with the 47s. In case I mis spoke on my issue.....it only occurs when it is cold. March and April cold. The same reel that did not work in the early morning will work fine at 10 am after sitting in the rod rack exposed to the sun.

I long for a return to the days when one could walk across the Genesee on the backs of this regal fish! Long live salmo salar!! Stock away! What can I say.......It's my favorite FW fish!

I have purchased Cannons, Big Jon's, and Scotty's in the last 5 years. I ran cannons from 1982 until 2010 when I purchased brand new top of the line DT's. I installed them early July and they did not work correctly. I called the manufacturer, their solution was for me to send them to them and they would have them back to me after Labor Day! I explained that I needed the equipment to operate 60 charters before then and they expressed that was I problem I would have to handle. I did so by replacing them with Big Jon's but they could not hold up to my fishing demands, the company was very supportive. While I don't like the looks of Scotty's, they are great riggers; fast, durable and efficient with very few problems, responsive customer service. I recommend them without reservation. The above comments represent the experience I have had, agree with above posts. What you are buying is the backing of the company.....15 years ago that was a no brainier and IMO it is as well today, but not the same company.

Do you have any ko wobblers? Or Kastmasters?

If there is color in the water I run a 4 X 4, four down four back, spoon standard size, moonshine ratchet jaw was the one I ran last spring. Silver orange, fire tiger, gold have all produced in the past. Way back in the '80's we ran blue and silver looters for cohos in this manner. It is awesome when this rod pops! Usually the 4 X 4 fish are larger than the day's average. CC

Anyone know where they archive a history of Lake Erie temps for past years? Early ice melts on LE means good salmon fishing along the entire southern shore in April/ May.

Dave, Is the spool issue one that is persistent or can it be intermittent like my situation....only in the cold?

These reels do not work for me in the cold <40 degrees, drags just have no tension like they are in free spool. Work great when warm! Anybody else have this issue or fix?

I like a building east wind to about 15 mph in the middle of summer caused by an approaching low pressure system.........these conditions present a challenge.....the rest of the time it is just too easy!
