Cayuga Barney & Bear's 27th Annual Spring Derby
Nautitroller replied to Splitshot115's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
The Nauti-troller and crew went 16 for 20 4 salmon (one 18") and 20 lakers on Sat with no large fish. Lost a very large laker (ten plus), oh the one that got away Lots of filets for all my friends and family who wanted some. Sunday went back to same spot we lost big boy and started hammering big fish. Todd Sr. landed a 7.2 and Todd Jr landed a 7lber, If he was a yr and a half younger it would have placed first in the youth division. All big fish came off of FLT Anna conda! Thanks Bobby! Saturday theFLT Alpha Alewife was the champ boating a majority of the fish. Location was South and North of Taughannock and South and North of Milliken. 75 fow on bottom.. Kwik fish did well too, slow speed 1.5-1.8 Thanks to all that ran the tournament! Nice meeting ya Fat Hobbit how did you do? -

Amazing how the reports on Cayuga don't exsist this week. Well here goes we fished Cayuga yesterday started south end and headed north went 7 for 12. 5 Lakers two salmon. Fish are all over not quite set up in regular places. Marked some big fish but I will keep those spots private. Good luck to all this weekend see ya out there. The hot lures were the DWB and Alpha Alewife (UV), FLT rules! -

Got out after rain about 10:30am till 1:30pm four for four on lakers. Nothing huge nice eaters. 130 fow south end and east shore. Lures down 120 and 80' down on wire dipsy ( 240' back) Some more bait showing up. Heavy north blow for about an hour made it cool right off. Total spoon bite nothing touching the FF. Question: does the FF combo lose its effectiveness under 1.8mph?? What do you all think, if you are running slow do you just run spoons?

Was out for a bit yesterday. With a light north blow the lake may have turned over a bit, the wind has been south for quite a while taking the warm water off the south end into deeper water. There is a large amount of bait waiting to spawn just off the drop off. This week/ weekend should be fantastic. Probably get out once more Friday or Sat. Spoon bite, no hits on FF was hitting fish in 80-130 fow. Super slow troll too. 1.5 to 1.8. Good luck! Finding them is the key!

Was on Cayuga yesterday. 80-130 fow right off south end in the middle, large arcs on large bait cloud on bottom. Alpha Alewife spoon and UV blue spoon took three nice lakers. FF program was not the ticket yesterday. Good Luck!

First 30 incher of the season!

Nice fish details? Which lake? -
Maybe a bit of rain and a nice west or north blow will get the bait off the bottom of the lake. We did mark a lot of bait 260' down in 450' of water. The laker had large alewifes in his belly. Good luck all

Fished south end, not much happening all morning. Ended up 6 miles up west shore 130 fow 90' down glow white spoon caught a nice 28" laker, mission complete. Salsa covered fish on the charcoal! Yum... No takers on FF or small spoons water temp on top started at 39.9 got to 50 on west shore before wind came up. Guess you have to travel north to consistently catch fish on Seneca. Comments? Still love fishing the crazy lake cause when you figure it out the big ones are there!!

Point being the water is very cold and muddy, the kids were who I was worried about. One slipped oar and a kid could get knocked out and gone. Yes I believe strongly in wearing a PFD. Yes thanks again for the report Dave! Good fishing all!

Fished south end also this evening dodged 20 sailboats and a pile of Cornell crew. The temps were way down from Sunday. Decided to head north along east shore. Seneca Special Flasher with UV fly landed a nice 28" laker full of alweives (6) that were about 5" long each .. am I using too small spoons or sticks? Alpha Alewife also landed two smaller lakers. 70' down and 160 to 75 fow. Temp was 41 degrees. Dumb question but all those kids on the crew do not have life jackets on exempt from NYS law??? If I dont wear one I surely will get ticketed just saying....

Thanks for all the great input guys. I will stick with the prop on the motor now, it trolls great and top end is not that bad at 29mph. Appreciate the comments.

Sweet! Great to see a 12yr old having a ball. I remember my buddies dad taking me when I was that age he was so excited he had a new paper graph at the time! I remember huge bait clouds on that thing and a smelt run that blacked out fall creek. The good old days -
Went 18 for ? lost count of how many small drop offs. First hour was slow not much hitting stick baits. Alpha alewife from fingerlakestackle.com was killer today catching about 5 to one more than any other lure. Thanks to Billy V on the previous post caught a nice eater size laker with FF on dipsy 275' back north toward drop off. Kept one nice 23" LL picture attached. New boat for me (17' Tracker Targa 60hp four stroke) still working out kinks. need more rod holders.... Thanks to all the guys out there everyone was aware of their lines kudos to all. Speed was 1.9-2.2 but a few speed bursts seemed to trigger fish.

Just purchased a boat that the owner says only hits 27mph top speed. The prop looks unproportionately small. Does anyone have a place or a dealer that has specs for a 2006 merc 60 four stroke and can give me a recommendation for an ideal prop.
