For Rent Cottage rental outside Sackets Harbor
greenboatluke posted a topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Cottage for rent a few miles outside Sackets Harbor, NY. This is our home away from home and we've decided to open it to the fishing community on LOU at an off season rate. It's a great location on the eastern end. There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen and the other with 2 twin beds. There is also a futon in the living room. WiFi. Great for family and kids, sand beach with gentle gradient. 5 minutes to Sackets Harbor launch, 15 min to Henderson launch, 20 to Stony Creek launch, 25 to Chaumont launch. Several options for combating the wind and waves. Off season rate $80 per night or $550 per week. May 7 - 23, May 28 - June 16, Sept 3 - Sept 30. $80/night for spring/fall, any days you like. Post any questions or PM me, text or call 315 256 8092 -

Copper sinks roughly 20' for every 100' out @ 2.5 mph. When someone gives a copper number there're referring to feet out. And I use wire for my dipsys. The chart that comes with a magnum dipsy says it'll achieve 100' using 20# mono at 2.5 mph. But with wire or braid it should go deeper. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I tangled my dipsy and 450 last year when turning around... did what I thought was a wide turn and found out the hard way that I better just pull the copper, make a wide turn and redeploy. Chalk that one up to the learning curve. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I know this has been a topic on here before, but can't find it. So you can post it here if you do, or we'll just go around again with the topic! [emoji23] I breakdown my wire dipsy rods after almost every trip. What do you all think of using a length of mono at the end of your wire to alleviate getting loops or kinks in the wire? What # test is used? How often do you or should you change it? Thanks, Luke Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Thanks Chas0218. My place is outside Sackets. Looking for different semi-protected water when the wind isn't letting me get out deep on the days I am allowed out! [emoji23]. If your ever looking for someone to fish with or don't mind showing me around chaumont, let me know. I'm a teacher and make it up there for about half the summer weeks and some weekends spring/fall. Thanks final flight. I do know Henderson... Maybe I should've stated I have a cottage outside Sackets and am looking for ways to get out by trailer when the wind isn't cooperating for a troll out deep, in H bay, or BRB. We all know the Lady can get nasty, especially those days you have it all planned out! [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I just want to clear up the penetration of visible light in water... Pap, your numbers are way off. Maybe if you were talking in meters, but they'd still be off. The longer wavelengths, red, orange, and yellow are absorbed quickly near the surface, in the first 10-15 meters. The shorter wavelengths, green, blue, and violet travel farther with blue going the furthest about 150 meters. If light stopped penetrating at 40 ft, why the hell would we use any colors at all below 40ft when we all fish well below that and talk of our hot colors and such??? The numbers here will ultimately vary depending on water clarity, more stuff = less penetration. I like the topic and am interested what everyone thinks. I'm still newish to deep trolling and threads like this really interest me. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

Naming My girl
greenboatluke replied to piratesholly's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I read a little about renaming a boat when I was doing mine... the long and short of it is, if you rename it you need to christen it upon slashdown, referring to the old name and introducing the new name to the Lake (or body of water), with the first drink spilled on the bow allowing it to run off in the water, and the rest to go around for captain and crew. This will appease the gods, so they won't strike you with bad luck. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
