Trolling w/o downriggers
greenboatluke replied to lfoster607's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?

I bought a TD 2 seasons ago and it does help getting you basic info, temps, and terminal depth. It will help you figure out blowback compared to your counter. Last season I got a X4D and am, of course, happy with it. But I wanted to let you know that I still use my TD. So it’s not money wasted. I send it down my dipsy wire before I crank them in so I can get general depth for wire out and take notes. I’ve also sent it down my copper. This winter I picked up riggers for my gunwales and with use the TD to figure out depth with wingers and blowback, so it still comes in handy. Lastly, there’s a member selling a TD in the classifieds. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

People near Sackets and Henderson harbor
greenboatluke replied to jmyers345's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I sent Jonathan a pm already... But, I spend a few weeks straight just outside Sackets. I could definitely get out with you on a week day, my boat or yours. I have your info too. I’ll let you know when I’ll be up when it gets closer. - GBL Puffer II: 1802 Trophy Green Boat: 1966 Starcraft Mariner-V 14 -
I have a walk around, smaller than the above mentioned, and I love it. Has an outboard which I prefer. It trolls well, good size fishing platform, has room for storage, potty for my wife and daughter, also access to the front of the boat (which my kids love) while out and about on the lake or anchored. If I were to upgrade, it’d be another walk around, with a hardtop with curtains and rocket launcher. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Chaumont Area Report
greenboatluke replied to cedarswamp's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Thanks for the report. I’m headed up for memorial weekend and debating location to fish. Might head into the deep water and see what’s around. Tough spring so far. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

X2 on Amish Outfitters trolling bags. I have an 18’ trophy and use them. Pretty sure I have two of the 18”. They also help the boat to stabilize in chop, sometime I use them just for that. - GBL Puffer II: 1802 Trophy Green Boat: 1966 Starcraft Mariner-V 14

I use a conglomerate of them. Standard weather like TWC and NOAA, but add in PredictWind which gives you direction and strength several days out. I like to compare all to come up with a decision. Sorry, just reread your post and none have wave height. I’m on the east end and tried a buoy app, but the closet one was Prince Edward Island. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Did you try the “optimized” size option? My app wouldn’t load “original” size, so I went with the other and it worked Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Wanted Looking for gear, tricks and ideas
greenboatluke replied to sgilbert14's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I started with a FishHawk TD. It is a snap shot device, you send it down and bring it back up to get temps. It’ll also give you maximum depth which is good for learning blowback and dipsy depth. I upgraded to a FishHawk 4xd mid season last year, which is a probe attached just above your rigger ball with continuous wireless data to the display. Temp, down speed, and actual running depth. Both devices are very helpful! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

Last winter I came across a post here about TIC, and feel like I need to include my experience here for others. After reading the post, I did some research, spoke with a friend at work who's a big fly fisherman and he hooked me up with the president of the TU chapter of my district. I can't say enough about the generosity of TU with this program, they spent a little over $800 for my classroom set up. They own the chiller and filter, but I can use them indefinitely, if I stop participating, I just return the equipment. I teach 11th and 12th grade science and a good amount of my students are jazzed about the trout. We got about 150 Brown Trout eyed eggs on October 5th, which hatched within a week, absorbed their eye sac over the next several weeks, and have been swimming around for the past few months. My estimate is there are about 110-120 swimming. My students test the water quality, feed, water change, and enjoy having then tank in the room. If they continue to survive until late March/early April, we will get a DEC stocking permit and put them in a local stream to live in the wild. Crossing my fingers they survive!!!

I know it’s a ways off, but I have a cottage outside of Sackets and two little ones (I understand where you’re at!!!). If the lake is willing, I try to get out when I can. You’re more than welcome to join if you like. PM me your details and I’ll let you know the weeks/weekends I’m around. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
