  1. Let's see what happens the next few weeks .
  2. SOG is worthless information as far as trolling goes IMO . If you had a surface speed paddle on your depth finder , SOG, surface speed , and down speed would all be different . And the only one that matters is down speed .
  3. Did both read the same going in all directions ? After the big blow on Sat , there was a good current out there yesterday .
  4. I figured that east wind would change things . Question What more could anyone ask of a fishery ? Good job to the folks who make all this happen .
  5. My son and I got out early both days. Fished 75 to 130 most of the time . Fri we landed probably 20 fish . A mixed bag of everything . We got I think 3 good kings up to 20# . About 6 real nice steelheads up to 11# maybe . Temp was down like 80 ft . Sat morning it was howling so bad I didn't even get in the rowboat to fish the creek and that never happens . East wind Sat brought temp up . Was 42 deg down 50 . We ended up having consistent action all day . Riggers we're hot till 830 or so . 40 to 55 down took 2 good kings . Then my slide diver took over the show . 3 good kings netted and lost a few more .
  6. This state spends money it doesn't have all the time on projects . Maintanence , that's another issue . So I could see a new job creating hatchery project . Why not ? A great opportunity for ribbon cutting photo oops . The ecosystem has changed . There are less bass but man are they bigger. A lot of big perch also if you know how to catch them . I also get a lot of Northerners . My arms were tired yesterday from all the fish I reeled in yesterday. Is the fishing not good enough out there ? So why not develop this Atlantic project . Could be a great thing for stream anglers . They should have some say in this whole thing also . I spend a fair amount of time on the tribs with my fly rod . It's extremely challenging . I like that. My guess if the Altlantics take hold , guys will come from near and far to chase them . And that " noise " comment is just insulting .
  7. The entire NYS northern shoreline has ecosystems that support pretty much any freshwater fish that swims. How lucky are we to have that ? You can fish bass ,pike , musky walleye , panfish , trout or salmon . More importantly you can fish fish for those species in a way you like to . For trout / salmon , some guys like to troll . Others passion is the trib pin or fly fishing thing . I like to do it all ( but I can't bring myself to pick up a center pin ) . And I can tell you from my perspective , if I'm targeting fall browns and rainbows , stream kings can be a nuisance. Sounds to me like there is a fear by some that kings will be put on the back burner . I don't see that happening . The king fishing is lights out this year . I personally would love to see a good Atlantic program . It's always fun to catch one and why shouldn't the trib guys have what they want also ? They buy license and pay their tax dollars for the stocking program also. As far as hatchery space . I said it before and now again . It's time for a new state of the art hatchery in this state . It should be priority 1 of the members of this board .
  8. The DEC cut the domestic rainbow program ( which was very successful for south shore tribe guys ) for more rearing space for brown trout . Seems to me that was done for the east end lake anglers who don't get the kings till later in the year .
  9. I'm not saying yea or nay on the program but I think the amount of tributary anglers state wide and their economic impact is grossly underestimated by some .
  10. A long long time ago the fleas first showed up and nobody knew what they were . Common practice was to use straight 15 # mono back then . Well we all know that is a flea catching mess. There was much discussion on a previous to this board about how to combat them . As I recall some nice guy , I don't remember who , spliced a 150 ft section of 40# on his reels . He went on that same board and revealed his findings. He got all kinds of crap . Was told he wasn't a sportsman , how it wouldn't work , etc. He even told a charter captain ,who arrogantly said he was crazy . Fast forward to today . He was the first to solve everyones problem . Some guys are just forward thinking problem solving geniuses . Wish I could remember who it was .
  11. I know I hit bottom in 80 ft with 65# braid , a mag diver , and my counter at 260 this weekend r
  12. Yes been doing it for years . Not as good as wire but its not bad . Outweighs the other problems with wire by far IMO . 65 # power pro minimum .
  13. Well , they use to treat Sandy . The last time I saw the trucks upstream was about 12 years ago I think . Maybe longer . None of the fish I boated has lamprey marks
  14. Welcome to Lake Ontario
  15. Your SOG and speed thru the water are 2 completely different things You could be trolling into a heavy current at 2 mph on your down speed indicator and actually going backwards SOG . 1.7 isn't really that big a difference .
  16. Yes , and the current can get worse than that .
  17. Went out early with my boy and followed Coyote K to the hot spot with the new boat . It occurred to me this morning that I have not named her yet . Very happy so far with her . We fished the 110 to 140 waters. Got this 260 on my braid dipsey and broke off another screamer on my slide diver . wound up going 5 for 8 or 9 All spoon bite .
  18. Stopped by today . Nice shop with good assortment . Local people . Support them .
  19. I live in Holley and cottage at Sandy creek in Hamlin .
  20. Yes but it looks like they integrated the nut into the knob . The shaft and ,the washer ,and that red bearing look the same . If you need a Hail Mary , I have it .
  21. Is that from Mag 10 from the 80 s ?
  22. I'm working on the lake in Rochester and it's white caps . 1 to 3 ft
  23. Good sales at Bass pro and Cabalas (same thing ) but regular prices are high since the merger . I'll stop by soon at the new shop .

After the microburst that came thru Thursday night and getting bumped to a different campsite because of all the monster trees that came down in the tent section , we had a good weekend . It's very luck that someone was not killed . If it was a day later and we were on that site , it could have been tragic . A huge tree fell right where our tents would have been set up . Thank God . We went out for a few hrs Fri afternoon and fished the inside outlet and did well on bass . Next morning it an angry lake was howling and the bay was capping so plan B was fish the creek where the diving boards were . We did well and got our shore lunch we always get without fail , that looked like was in jeopardy . Small Senko style and Swimbaits did the trick . An old freind who knows 0 about fish caught this nice bass on the third cast after I set him up and showed him how . I can make a fisherman out of anyone I figured it would blow itself out overnight but Sun morning was as bad as Sat . There was drifting sand at the swimming area parking lots . Great party with good friends which the older I get , is more of what it's about
