  1. I use the Scotty pinch pads and love them . On the back of the release where the cable line is , push that plastic piece back for better grip . I set my releases so tight , I have a hard time popping it when I want to change . But a good fish has no problem releasing it and I get a good hookset .
  2. I have 2 friends that have the same riggers . One lost 2 probes , the other 1 . I also had Mag 10s and loved them My new to me boat came with Walker tournament riggers . They are great . If I need new riggers some day ,they won't be Cannon . Unless they are the Tournament ones . With all the problems I hear about those riggers , let's put it nicely , there are much better options . To much weight ? I thought those riggers we're rated for up to 20# Give them to Fred Sanford .
  3. 49 down 90 is not bad temp IMO I was working on the lake today and there were offshore winds all day . So it probably blew some of that warm water out and the temp should not be as deep . Lake flips with strong sustained east winds .
  4. Great minds think alike 😂
  5. Not necessarily . I have got a lot of steelhead this month and they have been hitting the same thing the kings have. That includes flashers . Today was an 11 " paddle with my rig 90 ft down hooked 3 nice steelhead . But I do think they like the 28 size spoons generally . Frog , Black silver UV , Spook or Lazer Spook , NBK have all been good . I think location is most important . Can't catch what is not under your boat .
  6. Whenever Coyote K and I do the tag team thing with our boats , we almost always do well . Eliminate water fast and figure it out. We found a spot and did some circles and a few boats made a beeline towards us . Not the first time .
  7. Last day of July and of the LOC After the north wind yesterday we decided to head offshore. Ran out at dawn and set down in 350 and headed north . Best was 400 to 430 . Temp was down 85 for us . Put all our eggs in one basket and ran all flashers rigs , one each on my 2 riggers and one on each dipsey . Ended up with 3 nice steelhead and 2 good Salmon . A few more good rips on the dipseys . My rig , Which has been catching a few has not been the stud early on but today and last trip out was the man.
  8. I just looked on the tournament website and it states it is cancelled . Which kind of sucks My brother told me they can't get people to run it . Don't know how true that is .
  9. Maybe that was you that was around us off the nose yesterday morning offshore . . We hooked 3 good kings and landed 2 biggest 20# . Flasher bite for us as that was all I we were running . Also 3 steelheads and some shakers . We had to go to work so we left 930
  10. I had my 1986 305 Chevy ,230 OMC cobra converted from point to Electronic . Best thing I ever did for that motor . Never had a problem with it . Boat ran flawless . 1/3 better gas mileage . Trolled .smoother . Shifted great . Tommy from East Fork marine did the work . Did an awesome job as usual .
  11. Manny , we have all had those days . Me more than I like to admit . I feel your pain .
  12. My 21 ft hardtop with 305 Chevy came with a 15 /17 prop I dinged it and brought it to Spinneli to fix and buy a spare . He sat down with me and suggested a 15 1/2 / 15 prop . He said these fishing boats get loaded with equipment and coolers and that prop would have better performance . And he was spot on . It has better hole shot , better cruising in waves . I lost a little top end but it was better all around and better trolling .
  13. There are 3 islands in front of the 1000 island park . Drift down around them We did well about 25 years ago with pike and bass for years 10 to 20 ft deep
  14. My nephew , who is big into racing boats in FLA , told me I should get a stainless steel prop . I said I don't need the speed . He said they can't get the cup and pitch in an aluminum prop like they can in stainless . He said with aluminum , you have basically 1 gear. Also said I would get better gas mileage . I don't know anything about any of that , but he has built from scratch a 30 ft offshore racing boat and is a certified offshore racing official ,so I trust his opinion . I have seen props in his garage that he has sent out to have machined and ported . They are really something to see .

for sale : usa WANTED SPOON

So I have to ask , not to be a dick, but if you say that has been a killer spoon for you , and they are impossible to find , why would anyone give one up?
  16. We did about the same time frame and it was the same for us . And we had pretty much the same results . Spoon bite also . Although we had a few shakers and Lakers on the flasher set up . Our biggest was 20# and lost another ripper on the dipsey .
  17. I have a Control King that came with the boat . Works great .
  18. I fish in my row boat a lot just before dark quite a bit . There are some " Shady " characters there .
  19. There are times I have had to go 4+ mph surface to catch fish . I could not care less about SOG or surface speed . Do yourself a favor and turn the surface and SOG off . Trust your probe for deep water fish . Vary the speed and duplicate it on the strike . It's as simple as that . If the fish are shallow , my probe doesn't go out for fear of loosing it and I use my surface speed on my depth finder .
  20. Atlantic's run the river to spawn from Oct to Dec + How cool would it be for trib guys to have a healthy population of them to pursue ? Would make our great trib fishery even greater .
  21. Why would anyone concern themselves with surface speed or SOG other than to see how much current difference there is top to ball ? Anything other than down speed is irrelevant . If you have no down speed indicator than surface speed and direction of troll on the hit becomes your gauge . Some of you guys make this way more complicated than it needs to be .
  22. Is STW the same as surface speed with a paddle type probe ?
  23. You can get the cheapest 30 or 40 they make . It's bigger diameter and is better flea wise IMO . Did it for years . Never had an issue with it .
