  1. And also it is my experience that fish do not like the unstable churned up water and stay in the more stable water as it gets pushed out .
  2. But in a word , everyone sure does know what it means when it happens. I just watched that video. That is not a true representation of what happens . That video shows a tank with cold on one side and warm on the other . Then they pull a wall and it disperses . What actually happens is there is warm water on the entire surface of the lake . The prevailing current is west to east . Then the north east wind forces water towards shore and forces the warm water north while churning up the ice water . So actually it does flip .
  3. The word we that have been doing this awhile use is " flipped " . And we all know what it means. I run straight north till I hit 65 deg and troll north.
  4. Mike Myers did a skin mount of a 17# male steelhead back in 1977 and it still looks great . I think they have plastic fish at Walmart .
  5. So there you have it . User error . All you guys don't know how to use your downriggers . Now THAT is what you call standing behind your product . If anyone was considering buying riggers , would anyone reading this post buy Cannon ?
  6. Saw interesting u tube video from Fish307 . He was working on a Cannon rigger doing maintenance . Cannon upgraded the spool because of problems . Also the swivel tip . He also said to replace as scheduled maintenance the thrust and drag washers . If you have those riggers ,you should watch it .
  7. That spoon has been one of my best this year Got two browns on it yesterday midday .
  8. It sounds like this has happened more than we think . The amount of money that this bad able has cost their customers is kind of disturbing.
  9. Michigan overstocked the lake and crashed the baitfish population . It took a decade or more to get it back. NY learned from their mistake and keeps close tabs on the bait population and adjusts according . Sometimes to a fault ,IMO , but better safe than sorry . I feel there needs to be a balance . The fishing is pretty easy if you get over fish. Considering what we now know and equipment we now have. I feel ,at least for me , I want it to be a challenge . Some seemingly are not happy unless they have doubles and full boxes every trip . The bad days once in a while are the ones that keep me coming back .
  10. Let's not forget that Lake Michigan was overstocked with kings and the baitfish crashed for one reason or another . For many years, it was hard for the guys out there to land a 20# fish . It's taken the DNR out there a long time to get things straightened out . And this is the result of their efforts .
  11. Carbon 14 Glo 2 face Lazer Spook Green jeans Diehard Geezer Any black /glo/green seems to work Flasher Glo white or glo white green dot T41 fly Mirage
  12. Now that's what you call a loaded question Spoons and flashers and flies or meat rigs . Colors ? Get ready for a bunch of answers . And we all have our favorites .
  13. I think the best bite would be offshore. There are almost always at least some kings in close . But I think the majority , at least this year and probably last year are 200 ft plus . This is typical this time of year anyway. Kings are getting ready to stage and are roaming and looking to school up and migrate .
  14. I got all my hits in 80 to 100 ft in a quarter square mile
  15. If I'm solo I don't take pics unless the fish won't make it or I want it . . I try to get them back in the water Asap . At least one I took my net and let the bag get caught on the hooks and rip the hooks out . I don't want to take them out of the water if I don't have to , to increase survival . Besides , they weren't that big .
  16. I'll bet it's happened to a lot of people. And there is always room for humor and sarcasm . It gets me thru the day. Could be worse .
  17. First light solo Started in 70 ft and headed north Lots of bait and fish mixed in . Not a lot of big hooks . Made a commitment to run flashers only the last few times out . Green dot glo was best . 75 down , 220 dipsey . Wound up going 4 for six . All salmon 2 we're about 12 #s or so . Had a double ,lost the one on the rigger then dipsey fires . Good fish taking line and I lose it . I come back with just the ring of the swivel on the end of my flasher .
  18. Could be smallmouths
  19. Have you guys ever heard of sarcasm? 🙂🙂

  21. I don't know how true it is but I heard The Fish Hawk people gave Cannon a great deal on that Downrigger cable .
  22. So Look at the angle of your cables as judge of speed . If you have 12# weights and you have 90 ft of cable out , your angle back should be about 30 deg . If they are 10# more angle . You should be slow turning constantly with , against ,and sideways to the waves so your lures are going the right speed at least some of the time. Look at GPS speed and direction of troll on hit . Standard and Mag spoons in the PROVEN colors for best chance of hits without speed indicator , your dipseys should be your best producers . You can get a surface speed temp probe add on for your depth finder which will help a lot for not a lot of money . I used one for years before my fish hawk .
  23. I use the Scotty pinch pads and love them . On the back of the release where the cable line is , push that plastic piece back for better grip . I set my releases so tight , I have a hard time popping it when I want to change . But a good fish has no problem releasing it and I get a good hookset .
  24. I have 2 friends that have the same riggers . One lost 2 probes , the other 1 . I also had Mag 10s and loved them My new to me boat came with Walker tournament riggers . They are great . If I need new riggers some day ,they won't be Cannon . Unless they are the Tournament ones . With all the problems I hear about those riggers , let's put it nicely , there are much better options . To much weight ? I thought those riggers we're rated for up to 20# Give them to Fred Sanford .
