  1. I have a small (17') boat but I still try to start out with 2 wireline dipseys per side in the summer. I don't have the high end Okuma reels, I am using Magda Pro 30's with good drags and they seem to work well. The inner dipseys set to 1 and the outer set to 3. Then I run 2 rods off the 2 downriggers. These I did upgrade to Penn GT320's with lever drag, 30lb mono with 20lb fluoro leaders. If its rough or we need to make tight turns, I pull the second set of dipseys and run 10 color lead off a planer board on one side, and a mono line with a michigan stinger dive bomb off the other I havent gotten into copper yet, still learning from a friend of mine...
  2. We have stayed at South Shore before, nice as it's right on the lake (but no lake access) but it can be windy... This year we stayed in a little 2 BR cottage right behind the convenience store in Sodus Point. More expensive, but very convenient to the launch, store, etc...
  3. What secures the rod holder in the track? I dont see any thumb screws. Thanks, Mike
  4. 1984 Johnson Sailmaster 8HP 2 stroke XL (25") shaft with charging circuit. I rebuilt the carb 2 years ago (float needle, spring and needle seat, new float and gaskets, and cleaned thoroughly) and also replaced the impeller at that time. Lower unit lube changed this spring, ran it about 2 months of this season. Only selling because I upgraded to a 4 stroke kicker. Not the prettiest, but it has been very reliable. $375/BO. I live in Webster NY, PM me here or text 585_635_9029. Mike
  5. Headed west again from Russell Station this morning, picked up this nice steelhead 5 minutes in on a wonder bread spoon from the rigger down 60 in 140 FOW. Ten minutes later got this decent king on a wire dipsey down 75 ft (silver & blue spin doctor and a black fly) then quiet for a while, but ended up with another king on a black and green glow spoon and another steelhead on a green flasher fly...So 4 for 5 and off the water by noon...fleas not quite mature yet so still coming off the lines pretty easy. Also was 1st shakedown run of my new to me 6HP Tohatsu 4 stroke kicker...Everybody says the vibration would be bad because it only has 1 cylinder, but when its separated from the boat by a kicker motor bracket, CMC power tilt and some EPDM rubber pieces, you cant even tell its there...
  6. You can buy with confidence from Terry, he is meticulous with his equipment!
  7. You are right on...From Russell Station heading west we picked up 2 kings today...Didn't boat either of them but that's another story...had a few times where the screen looked good, suspended fish 75-90 over 150-160 FOW.
  8. Nice morning on a flat lake, started out in 140 FOW heading northwest from Russell Station. Picked up a laker on a green flasher fly dipsey, then lost 2 kings in a row (1 right at the boat due to my poor net skills...) 1 king hit on a black and green NK28, the other hit on a black spin doctor fly combo on the other dipsey. Got another laker on the green fly dipsey again, down 70 feet. So 2 for 4 but losing those 2 kings hurts...
  9. Turns out they were just really dry...A little white lithium on the dogs and WD40 in the pivots and they ratchet like new! Thanks, for all the feedback.
  10. Thanks for the update, I fish out of I Bay too from Mayer's, guess I gotta get deeper than 150'. Gonna try today after work, ch 68, boat is Catch U Later on VHF...
  11. Ok thanks for the advice, I will get them lubed up.
  12. Over the winter I bought 2 Berts ratcheting rod holders from someone on LOU, and I noticed last week while fishing that they don't pull up with a 1-hand retrieve like my other 2 do. You have to pull the lever to get the rod holder to raise up. Is something wrong with them or are there 2 different designs/models out there? The look exactly the same...
  13. Must be the season...This bird was the only thing that came onto my boat this morning off I Bay...Marking them at 65-75 FOW but no hits...
  14. Not a lot of action this morning for us, east wind and bright sunshine. Got 1 nice brown still hanging around in 25 FOW by Shipbuilders, on a silver and green Rapala. Tried out deep about 65 FOW, marking a lot but only picked up 1 king on a black and glow NK magnum. Still a great day fishing with my son, cant beat it!
  15. I know its a couple days past, but the fishing heading east from I Bay has been great so far this year...20 to 30 FOW heading east brought in the browns, then heading back west we picked up some nice kings and browns, we went 8 for 13 overall, losing a very nice Atlantic right at the boat. We were more in the pea soup water than following any mud lines, and orange and mixed veggies NK28's on 1 color of lead were the best producers. The boys doubled up twice, the second time was a PB brown for Robbie! I have never netted 2 fish at 1 time, that was fun LOL...Love seeing the kids catching fish...
  16. If you have a chance could you post a couple pics? Thanks, Mike
  17. Thanks that could work...Did you mount it directly to the boats bench seat or did you put some wood in between the seat and the slide?
  18. Yes there is foam under the aluminum bench seat so i have stayed away from drilling into that so far. So you are thinking a piece of 3/4" plywood across the top, mounted to the angled seat supports, and then attach the seat to the plywood? That is a good idea, I think I have some leftover marine plywood i could try that out. Thanks for the idea!
