I'm going to try a wire diver rod this year and have a couple questions. Can you repair broken strands on the 19 strand wire, or the seven strand, or is the line trashed once you get a break in it? On one of the above posts the info was that the 19 strand wire was softer and you could use a regular rod tip. I'd like to use my lead core rod rather than use a seven strand and modify a rod tip with a roller or twili tip. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
Plan on making the trip to Lake Ontario soon and am getting the tackle ready. I have flashers and spin doctors in all sizes but want to minimize my tackle if I can. Are the smaller 8" flashers and spinnies something you would run in the spread at this time of year, or just use 10" and larger? Also general color patterns would be helpful. Thanks for any help.
Does anyone use a marine GPS App for your phone or tablet? Rather than buy a GPS plotter, I was thinking about purchasing an App, like the Navionics.App for my tablet. Would appreciate any input as to suggestions and comments about using them. Thanks.
Freebird 18: Thanks for the very helpful info on the Brad's Super Baits. I won't be able to try them on Lake Ontario this year because of the travel ban. However, I'll give them a try the next time I go to Lake Michigan. Thanks again.
Thanks for the reply and the info. Was thinking about getting a Fish Hawk. I agree, mongolian beef is a great spoon. It has its' day on Lake Michigan too. Thanks again. Jim
Glad you were able to get to fish with your Dad. Any special spoon combinations or colors that were working best? Also, do you have a speed/temp probe at the ball to compensate for the current? A day with your Dad along with fantastic fishing is priceless.
Sounds like you had a great night fishing. Could you describe or show a photo of the spreader clamp since I usually fish solo and could use some help at the wheel. Thanks
BottomLine: Thanks for the heads up. I guess I missed my shot to fish Lake Ontario this year. It took too long to get the electrical run for the downriggers and I'm still waiting for my second rigger to arrive. Good luck and put one on the leader board for me!
Thanks for the info. I'm chomping at the bit to get to Lake Ontario. Once my second rigger arrives (today or tomorrow), I've got to run electrical and get it in. Then, I'll watch for a two or three day weather window before making the trip from Ohio. Is there a decent public launch with parking at Olcott? Enjoy your great fishing day!
Jim
Sea-IV: Could you provide a description on the carbon spoons. Are they the carbon 14 with the glow back and black front with glow dot? Also seen a reference to a carbon spoon with an orange ladder back, Glad you guys are doing well. Hope to get there next week if the governor doesn't ban travelers from Ohio.Thanks.
