    As a young teenager I would take my racoon, fox, muskrat and an occasional mink pelts to an auction house in Alton, NY and walk away with a few hundred $$ in my pocket! Big money for young country kid. If I had ever stopped to calculate what all the prepping traps, setting, checking daily, skinning, stretching and selling yielded as an hourly return, I probably would've been better off staying in bed. Not to mention more than one mid-winter dunking when checking muskrat lines.

    I'm just asking...I did a lot of trapping back in the late 70's/early 80's and we would regularly get $80-$90 for red fox, $45 - $50 for greys....few if any coyotes back then. The market went to hell thanks to the PETA crowd. Is there still value in pelts or is it merely for sport/predator control?

    I Love my GLT's. It may be tough to find a rod suitable for Kings that doesn't feel a bit like overkill for walleyes. That's a tough ask for one rod to cover both without feeling either under or over gunned.

    Bay Rat S3's on the beach side if I need to run in the 5-6' water and SS on the outside. A mix of the same and spoons if I can run outside of 10'.

    Do you guys have favorites/recommendations for which of these spoons to use on the Finger Lakes and Lake O? The 87's look interesting to me.

    I use standard scotch tape cut in half lengthwise with a craft style razor blade knife. Then I wrap tightly with tying thread. I use kevlar thread that I use for large streamer flies, etc. but any thread will do. Finish with superglue, head cement or your wife's nail polish. Never had one come apart before it was chewed.

    I'm 100% Coldwaters. As Legacy said, they have been updated and now come with improved drags out of the box.

    So the casual recreational fisherman will be relegated to the largely slow moving, mud bottom of the Powder Mill area while the T.U. guys have locked up the beautiful stretches of rock and gravel bottom, fast moving, well aerated water in the lower reaches. I for one don't enjoy drifting worms under slow moving bobbers through "holes" that are 4' wide.

    I'm not a fish biologist or even remotely educated on fish reproduction, etc. but please help me to understand how stocked fish that are mostly removed from the stream by mid summer due to fishing can in any way affect the spawning activities of "native" brown trout that spawn in the fall. I guess my question is: What is the downside to having both "native" and stocked trout?

    You nailed it Rich........taking an opportunity away from the many (kids especially) to pander to the few. My license $$'s are just as important as the T.U. guys.

    I can't tell you how many kids I've witnessed catch their first trout at Irondequoit. Linear Park offers easy access and productive fishing. The perfect opportunity to introduce kids and adults to our sport. The Brown Trout program has been a "put and take" fishery and I doubt there is much if any reproduction occurring...certainly not at a level to impact the reproduction of naturals.

    I believe the Fish Hawk draws about 2.5 - 3amps when running so 2.5 X 8hrs = 20ah. Like AnglingAddict said, double that and you will have a buffer. I would think a 50ah Lithium would easily last for 8hrs.

    I've been given a 1968 Evinrude 18hp Fastwin. It's been garage stored for about 4 years but I'm told it ran great last time out. I'm hoping to have someone give it a once over and check compression, carb, fuel pump, lower unit, etc. I've contacted several shops and no one seems interested in servicing a motor this old. Any suggestions, referrals would be appreciated. Hopefully in the Rochester or Sodus area. Thanks

    That would certainly help as Kevin indicated. My response was assuming you were wanting to run your leader off the BB arm. If you want to use a 3 way above I would suggest the straight stick style BB's instead of the "L" shaped to avoid tangling your leader on the BB. Especially when deploying.

    I get no sonar readings on my Hook 7 unless it's in the water. Temperature, navigation both work but no sonar.

    Heavy current is a big factor but in general, you would add the diving depth of your stickbait to the depth your running your weight. Leader length from weight to bait also plays a role. So if your actually bottom bouncing, a stickbait that dives will be digging bottom. An occasional tick of the bottom can be a good thing for lethargic eyes but you don't want to be dredging mud.

    I used 18Lb. No problem with breakoffs. With good drags and the right rods 18 is sufficient and you can get away with smaller (20 or 30 size) reels.

    I run small spin dr.'s on braid all the time. Peanut flies, 4" mylar style flies and spoons all run fine. If your concern is the lack of stretch in the braid, the key is properly set drags and a good rod with fast action (rod bends from tip through mid section, sufficient backbone near the handle)
