Hello friends. I was fortunate enough to live on west shore of Lake Michigan for a few years (2019-2022) and the ice fishing for browns/steelheads was phenomenal especially around Milwaukee area. Finally moved back home to raise the family 3hrs south of Henderson but up in that area all the time pulling spoons or pinning in the tribs. My 6yr old is fascinated with ice fishing and I’m just wondering if this area  has a similar fishery for the trout through the ice like I’ve experienced in the Midwest. We love smallie, perch, and walleye fishing, but He’s hooked on the salmonids (like his dad!) and I’m looking for generic advice. Thanks in advance!

There is good ice fishing in Henderson harbor , you can walk out from the public launch or ride snowmobile/ 4 wheeler   As for salmonids  , not so much. Perch , northern pike , occasional walleye are the main fish available in the harbor.
the trout and salmon stay mainly on the lake where suitable ice is not found

Ive caught steelhead near sacketts. but just by luck. I think if i had to catch Lake O trout maybe the best bet would be on Stony creek in the channel. IDK about safety so it could be very dicey, but it is generally a slow moving creek that Id imagine locks up. Maybe if the lake locks up the mouth of Stony could produce browns/steel. Otherwise, the inland lakes around Theresa have some atlantics and lakers.

Thank you very much. The mouth of Stony was one of the spots I was considering, but like you said it’s all about having safe ice. I do well on browns and steelhead from now through spring on the centerpin in the Stony, I’ve got to believe if you could get on the ice, there’s plenty of fresh fish coming into the creek.
