I will be heading to my house in the finger lakes for a couple weeks early may and plan on getting out on Ontario. How late in the season do people run planers for trout and salmon? Am I wasting my time and space hauling them up there?

I fish browns all summer and have the big boards out every trip.  If it's banging the beach in August after an upwelling or thermalcline browns in 50', they are out.  They are just pulling different rods.

Gambler is right on. The browns are always there. Just gotta slide in and out till you find them. If you can find where the thermocline intersects with the bottom you're in business!

Mine go in the water on my first trip of the season and are used the entire season chasing fish on the lake!
