It appears that this is part of what they are doing right now. Also In the past NOAA research has partnered with Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute and the University of Rhode Island when they come across shipwrecks while mapping. https://sonarguy.com/lake-ontario/

I believe I read that there were some 200+ shipwrecks along the southern shore of Lake Ontario, most are in shallow water where they been investigated thoroughly or even salvaged. Dive teams are limited to something around 75 fow (please corrected me if I am mistaken), wrecks in deeper water could not be inspected as well.  With newer sonar technology and drones they are able to do some amazing things.

With the TJ still in Oswego, playing around with it's 2904, the trailerable "little guy" got some gas at the Genny and headed out to bounce around the 20 Line:

I always thought shipwrecks in our area were just small guys, and deep.  A couple are pretty big and shallow!

TJ is still at Oswego.  Interestingly, there is a 600 ft bulk carrier from the Marshal Islands also there.  Didn't know Oswego could handle that big a ship.

I have a friend that’s been diving lake O the last month plus. Here’s a couple of their finds.

Yeah, been a long time.  Hope all's well.  That deepworld.org is quite a site.  Those guys can dive deep!  Didn't realize there are derelicts/wrecks at Krenzer Marine. 

 

Did you check out the thread on NOAA Nav Charts?  It's a totally free site and kept up to date. Great for finding structure in many areas and if you have waypoints, can see exactly where you are.  Glad to see these tax dollars work. (Don't tell Washington.  )

We've all been there:  If nothing biting inshore then try offshore and if no bites there, go back inshore: (or maybe they heard a fisherman lie about catching a big one offshore )
