Penn Yan Engines

By the late 80's the marine division of Chrysler has a shell of what it was in the 70's, boat line gone, Chrysler outboards sold to Bayliner/US Marine and not really active in the inboard market if at all.

Just did stringers and a transom in an 89 Pro Hunter that had a Crusader 454, my 26 open also had a Crusader, my 29 has mercs, most Penn Yans I ve worked on that had Chryslers were of the 70s vintage, That being said, not a damn thing wrong with a Chrysler inboard, BUT, if it happens to be a 318, its severley underpowered, if its a 360, its marginal at best, The 26s really need a big block in my opinion

Dear Trenchfisherman,

I have seen a lot of PY's and rebuilt two from the hull up due to plywood floors and stringer rot. Have a carefull look at any of them. A late Chrysler Inboard is possible as PY built some special order ones too. Saw one late 90's 26' with a huge diesel in it with a modified floor. It was auctioned off because the customer backed out???? The engine cost more then the boat!!!! I heard that there was close to 80K in that one!

Respectfully submitted,

......Jet Boat Bill
