Speed question from a big lake newbie

Recommended Posts

This is my first season on lake O for salmon/trout. I usually run 2 dipsys with flasher fly combos, and 2 spoon(one on each rigger) What would be a good speed in order to up my odds and catching on both the spoons and the flys? Usually run spin doctors.... if that matters.... Thanks in advance

Tony

I'm not a local but make muliple trips per year, one trip they wanted it at 2.4-2.6 EVERY other trip they wanted the spoons and spin docs/fly's at 2.8-3.1. They just always seem to want it fast for me. However what works on one guys boat may not work on another guys boat program wise. I do always try slower but never seem to get bit.

Learn to watch your rods and blowback. I don't have a down probe but know if my dipsies are bent far enough I have the speed right. Last week SOG was anywhere from 2.4-3.4 depending on direction and current.

If thats all you run tie up some free sliding cheaters. Easy to use and will double your catch.
