Canandaigua 9/19 pulling copper

Recommended Posts

Sunday we got out with our friend Neal who invited us to pull copper on his boat. We left the Vine Valley dock and shot out around the shallow zone setting up trolling south. We worked the east side in 65-80 fow. Basic set up was a stout roller rod with a Penn 49 with .22 gauge single strand copper wire.

We marked a lot of suspended fish in the zone but only few bottom huggers which is where the spoons are.

We shot over to the west side, working the same depths, again saw alot of suspended fish and some near bottom, we did manage to hook a fish but Bonnie couldn't keep it buttoned. We had an unfortunate motor problem which necessitated a call to Neal's buddy to come tow us in. Neal's buddy Ted came to the rescue and he wanted us to catch fish pulling copper so he took us back out to the west side. We got set up again bouncing the bottom and Bonnie hooked up again but could not keep the fish hooked when the fish got up on the surface. Ted had a unique homemade copper pulling set up which we did run but we just couldn't get the fish to cooperate.
