Anyone tried running a dipsy off lead core?

Has anyone tried to run a dipsy off leadcore instead of wire to get it down deeper? Would it be strong enough to absorb the initial strike? If so how did it work, and is there any depth chart available? Just a thought, while I wish I was fishing.

the reason we use wire is the small dia. (one of the reasons)
