Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know what I am talking about. NYS DEC has issued a green list of baitfish that you are allowed to use on NYS waters. I was at the State of the Lake meeting when they announced this and we also had a state biologist come to our charter captains association meeting a few weeks prior. If I read something wrong or was informed wrong from two state biologist then I apologize, but don't shoot the messenger. I am a very respected poster on this site and many others. I know when and where to post things that affect everyone enjoying our resource. So here was the proposal (straight from the DEC website): 19.1 Definition of baits. The definitions contained in this section shall apply to Chapter I (Fish and Wildlife) of this Title, involving the taking of fish from the waters of the state other than the marine and coastal district. New sections 19.2 and 19.3 are added to read as follows: 19.2 Use of fish for bait in the waters of the State of New York. Does anyone ever use this functionality?

Per the new "green list" right now no herring can be used in Lake Ontario for 2008-2010. Looks like the fake stuff unless something changes. This was info brought out at the state of the lake meeting.

Its called an umbrella or spreader rig. I have always wanted to try on, but never have.

We sytayed there a couple of times when we first started going to Wilson. They are nice slips. But, I think they are overnight/a couple of days slips. I wouldnt leave the boat there becasue no one is around to watch it for you when your not there. Its not illegal at all, but if the park is collecting for launch fee your probably going to have to pay an overnight fee.

It was a blast to get out and definately a blast to catch 'em on bass gear. I was using a 6' baitcasting rod with a 100 series curado. I use these rods for jerkbaits and top water plugs when bass fishing. One lure caught them all! I took a white x-rap color code GGH and hand painted the entire back with a yellow sharpie. This used to be a buddies favorite color on a chug bug, and it was a special salt water run color. So I hand painted a fex x-raps this color last spring. We tried other colors like black and silver and orange and gold, but no takers. The retrieve must have been key too since my buddy wasn getting any hits. I would crank the reel a few turns and let it sit. All the fish hit on the pause.

Went to fish for smallmouth ended up smokin the perch. Not real good size but enough to have some fun and a fish fry.

Well, around 2pm I headed out of Irondequoit with the bass boat. Casted x-raps in front of shipbuilders for a few hours and went 2-3 on my bass gear.

Only the first weekend that was needed. We started doing the kings in front of Wilson the following weekend, and never headed back to the bar. On the last friday of the event my charter took home and ate what could of been the 5k fist place fish per the scale at the boatyard if they entered the derby like i asked. Last year was the latest year Ive seen up there and I have been going for almost 10 springs now. The dumb lakers were there in swarms though, so at least there were fish!

Folks this is why it is highly recommended that you at least finish High School (college helps too). Mis-spelling words usually isn't a HUGE deal, but when you cant spell the word "on" its obvious you were tokin' up before and after school.

It was pretty depressing!

The problem exist with the slip owners who dock there for the season. He starts to put those boats in mid May. That is the reason why he has room for the derby only. There are about 6 of us who come back every year for the month, and he accommodates us each year. Then there are the same guys who have been there for the Pro-Am for YEARS. So, what you need might be a problem since you want to stay through the Pro-Am. But, if you need something for just the derby you should be all set.

i agree about fighting fish on core and copper. Its not very fun, but you know that your big boy of the day WILL come off it. As far as fighting i would choose the rigger rod with a spoon. Now there is a clean/fun fight.

They make a special bead for the braid line

Im a leadcore/copper guy b/c I know that throughout the day our big boy will fall victim to one of those set-ups!
