  1. Peek-a-boo… Launched early, in position around 5:30. Beautiful morning. Flat as a mill pond after the sun came up. River temp 69F, out a ways was 62.4F. Dredge working up river & barge was being pushed out the channel. Put in at 100 & worked out to 190 FOW. Bait on bottom at 110 but pods came up higher as you went out. Best day out there this year. 2 small kings & 2 stlhds (26 &28â€). All released to catch another day. Stlheads came 90 down over 170 FOW. NK Wonderbreads. Medium lead, going fast. Pulled them all in at 10, when the ragboats started to appear at the river. Maybe 7 boats out there. Luck to all, Tom B. (LongLine)
  2. The key is to keep the amount of rod bend constant. I've seen guys haul back and double the rod over and then lower the tip so the rod has very little bend in it. This allows the hook to work itself loose in the fish's mouth. It's very important especially with the non-stretch lines and heavy mono's. Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. Bear - Give Hank a PM (L&M). I'm sure he'd look at them for you. My 75 idles right down with no problem. I only carry the kicker for emergencies & when I want to troll real real slow.. (I'm at the age where I don't want to find out if I can paddle in from 4 miles out or not.) Rol - They're in spawning mode right now. Mussels have pushed them out & salmon generally cruise above them (pelagic). Nature's law of survival I guess. Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. 75 hp & still going strong.
  5. Try a MUP rig. Mag spoon or Slvr flasher high with a fly behind it with a short lead. Run it 10 ft back. Run a clean matching spoon 10 below it and 10 ft behind it. Down speed 2.5. (GPS 3-3.2). Start about 35 ft down. 15-20 min, change your depth.
  6. Definitely bait. Dredge dumping east of river. Mud/slit would have shown black like rest of bottom.
  7. Welcome to the site, Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. Alewives are spawning. head to 90-130 FOW. Run some Blk & Slvr with a splash of red. Good luck, Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. So there I am on Saturday morning, clean screen for the last 3 trips but then I see this: . What the Heck? It’s almost 30 high & 50 ft across!!!! . Sunken boat? . Monstrous pile of seaweed? . Stack of Quagga mussels? . Go a little further: . . Hmmm….. . Headed further west: Probably saw 15 more. I haven’t seen this much in years! Wow! And hugging the bottom! . . Anyways, launched at 5:30. All 4 ramps open now. Love this scene: . Got past the dredge & headed out: Great day to get cooked out on the water. Just like a mill pond as far as you could see. Surface running 60-62F, dropped to 59 then back up again. Put in at 90, went to 160 & back in. Lots of activity on the scene, but all on the bottom. Took 2 steelhead on riggr’s running mupped bloody Blk & Silver, 35 ft down over 120-130. Off at 10:00, got warm out there. They’ve installed a “drop box†at the launch & they put a reminder on your vehicle to fill out card & pay. ($8.00) Maybe they’ll fix that dam rut! All of 6 boats in the new marina. (2 freaking yachts!) Oh boy, City blew another 30 million! Luck to all, Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. Diode (rectifier) is cheapest thing to replace. Also fairly easy to test. Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. WTF ? "Where The Fish?"
  12. If you look at the currents mapping, you'll see they go all over the place and at drastically different speeds. Saturday however, there was very little movement along the south shore - central area. http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/currents/glcfs-currents-avg.html Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. Welcome back Mark. Hope all is ok. Great to see you & Steve posting again. Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. Launch is open. 3 Lanes. 8 trailers yesterday. Watch out for logs. Tom B. (LongLine)
  15. Semper Fi. Welcome to the board. Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. You can use straps but be sure they don't slip.
  17. Try 10-2-15: FF on top, 10 to 15 ft back. Spoon on bottom 10 to 15 ft back. And 10 to 15 ft between them. Try to keep 10 to 15 ft between rod tips (min)
  18. How about lake wind farms vs recreational T & S fishing on Lake Ontario? (electric-magnetic fields, underwater cables, obstructions to navigation, no fishing zones - no boating zones.......)
  19. Yeah, but it works great!. Also keeps the ball bearing swivels lubricated and split rings from squeaking underwater...
  20. Try looking over these. Just remember that there were made at a certain water level so you have to add a little for hi water & subtract a little when the water is low. Also remember that sandbars have a nasty habit of moving. http://www.charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/14814.shtml Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. Get yourself a good map of the shoreline and keep an eye out for bars and obstructions. Even small boats don't like rocks. I'd suggest you get a set of planner boards and stay in 10 FOW min until you know the areas. Tom B. (LongLine)
  22. Get out at sunrise or earlier & you'll be fine in spring. (make sure lights are working) Water is generally very calm then. Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. SNAP (?) Of course if you poke your finger with the hooks, you'll probably.....
