  1. Personally I think either boat looks pretty decent from the pictures. The most important thing on an older glass boat is having a survey for the condition of the transom and stringers. If they are bad, it's major bucks! I/O motors are relatively cheap to replace versus and outboard. I'd be more inclined to take a chance on an older I/O than a 150HP + outboard powered boat. An outboard that size will set you back probably 12k or more. Just remember, survey, survey, survey! A few hundred $ loss out of your before purchase is better than a $4000 or $5000 yard ornament.
  2. A buddy got hit at the Gander Mtn above Syracuse. Cops told him the thieves work in pairs. One follows you in the store, while the other pilfers your boat. Inside man warns his buddy by cell phone if he sees you heading for the door. I think in this case, the OP is right probably thinking it was someone who knew him and what gear he had. That's often the case when specific items disappear while others are left. Sadly it probably was a fisherman picking the choice rods.
  3. If you have a contract stating delivery in 5 to 7 days, and they didn't meet the deadline, demand your money back in full. Personally I would never pay in full until day of delivery and satisfaction with the product.
  4. Anybody have an online source for wire line? I'm looking for a couple 1000' spools of 30#, and a couple twilly tips too. Thanks! I'm in S.E. PA, and there zilch trolling stuff for sale down here.
  5. This is a handy item for running a transducer cable through the transom. Leaves a clean professional looking job. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... sNum=50192
  6. I think many times there's good deals posted by newbies too. Maybe they want to unload stuff as they are getting out of fishing themselves, or a family member is. Boats listed for thousands of dollars is a different story.
  7. Not sure if this is an R model, or how far you are willing to travel. Don't know the seller or the boat either, but this one is in Reading, PA. I might be able to check it out if you were interested. http://reading.craigslist.org/boa/3070035246.html
  8. I know back in the day when cars has ignition points, they would rev up and sound good, but when you put a load on the motor, they would have no power. It was due to the points closing down. I imagine a 1964 outboard has ignition points, so I'd check that out. PS. Just because the spark looks good, doesn't mean it is good.
  9. That Sucks! A friend got cleaned out at the Syracuse Gander Mtn store. Police told him thieves are working in pairs now with cell phones. Once you leave your vehicle, one thief keeps his eye on your movements while the other robs your vehicle. If they see you heading back to your vehicle, a fast cell phone call and the thief is gone. Lowlife alcohol or drug addicts, one can only hope they die a slow and painful death from substance abuse.
  10. I had a 4 banger Mercruiser that acted similar, and it was the timing. It's a fast check anyhow.
  11. Fixed please, delete the post
  12. I'd consider a custom made snap on cover. Anything that extends past the gunnels or has straps that do, could be a problem chaffing the paint.
  13. A pair of 24" heavy canvas trolling bags in very good condition, some discoloration. They have a long bridle and a D ring to dump when retrieving. $45.00 plus shipping. MinnKota driftsock $27.00 plus shipping. Fishing gear trades considered.
  14. If you charged them and they are only at 8 volts, checking directly to the battery, they are shot!
  15. Here ya go. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=67177 In your case, red to #1 battery positive, orange to #2 battery positive, black to negative #1, and a jumper between the 2 batteries negative terminals. I hope when you originally wired it in series, it didn't fry something.
  16. Here's another link with a picture. Does this make any sense, and are their labels for each post on the back of the socket? http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?cmd=print&id=400928
  17. I don't believe you should use the extra wire for series. Red and black is one battery, and orange and white are the other battery. This allows you to pickup 12v only at the plug to use for acc. The 2 batteries power is combined in the foot pedal to provide 24v to the motor. Here's a copy and paste from another site. Could someone have possibly used a white wire instead of a second black wire which this post states you should have? Let's try to clear this up. 12V motors typically use a single 12V battery and have two wires. POS & NEG goint to the motor. No confusion so far I hope. Some folks use two twelve volt batteries wired POS to POS and NEG to NEG (called parallel wiring) to provide extra capacity. Paralleling two batteries still provides only 12Volts but the amp/hour capacity is doubled. Hence longer run time. 24volt only motors require two 12v batteries wired in SERIES (POS on Bat #1 goes through a fuse or breaker to the motor. NEG on BAT #1 goes to POS on BAT #2. NEG on Bat #2 goes to neg on the motor. 24V only motors will have just two wires. 12/24V motors is where this gets confusing since these motors can have three or four wires. Three wire systems have two red (or a red and an orange) and a third black wire. This is also true for four wire motors but there will be two black wires. Chances are your motor will be wired as JD indicated in his last post. You would wire the batteries in series (as for 24V operation) as I indicated above. But the second red (or orange) wire from the motor connects to the POS terminal on BAT #2. The switch on the motor then selects which wire will deliver power to the motor. Red = 24V and the other red (or orange) delivers 12V depending on which way the switch is set. You do need to verify this for your motor however as my first post in this thread indicates another way of doing this but the two methods are not interchangeable.
  18. I have a Garmin 498C unit that takes the small Garmin specific mini card. I'm looking for a card that covers lakes in Ontario CA. Or a Mapsource CD that I can download maps on to my own chip. Thanks, Ron
  19. I should be passing thru the area about 1:00 PM. You could call me on my cell, five -seven- zero- four-eight-four=five-five-seven-three
  20. I saw some reports that 1 lane was open on I-81. Hope that's true, and there's not a lot of gawkers running the roads and looking at people's misfortunes. I lived up there and experienced the 06 flood. I think this one went 3 feet higher. Can't imagine the devastation and heartache the people have to deal with.
  21. I was worried the flooding might have affected travel thru there. I heard 17 was closed at some point.
  22. Anyone know if I can get thru Binghamton going north on 81 tomorrow/ thanks!
