Might not be a bad idea to run mixed gas for the first tank. It will provide extra lubrication, and you can then insure the oil injection system is working, by observing usage of injection oil from the tank. From what I've heard, some Merc's used a plastic gear for the injection pump that was prone to failure.

No help, but saw a cable show, " Dirty Jobs" and the one episode dealt with a community harbor on Lake Erie which had your same problem. The " Dirty Job" was the folks that had to rake the grass out of the harbor the was blown in by wind and current.

To be quite frank, if you don't know what to look for yourself, and have no friends to help, hire a marine surveyor. A few hundred dollars spend now could save you a money pit!

Might help you you gave some specifics, outboard, inboard, make, model, year, etc? Outboards work off the stator on the flywheel, and inboards work off the coil.

Wow, a little too late. I had a late 80's 20HP shortshaft that got damaged in a trailering accident, but the powerhead was good. Someone could have built a decent motor. I'm moving tomorrow, so I landed up giving it to the local Merc dealer. Oh well!

A couple points about GPS, excuse me if you are aware of them. If you were sitting at a dock or dead in the water and punched in a coordinate, the GPS can give you a bearing, but the direction arrow won't point in the proper direction until the boat is underway and it has gotten a direction of travel from the satellites. Once underway then the arrow should point you in the right direction. Also your GPS uses Map Datum. If you recorded your waypoints using one map datum and somehow the Map Datum got changed in your setup menu, it could cause you to be off course.

It actually does run about 8 to 10 degrees warmer in southern PA. I never really thought about it, but that's probably the reason, all the hot air from Washington.

Hey Bob, If yesterday on Ontario was anything like Wed on Cayuga, I know what you mean about the heat! The sun was unmerciful all day, not a cloud in the sky. Ya better get back out there though, don't let a skunk make a home in your new boat. PS I'd be careful about being in a mens room alone with Ray. :shock:

Unfortunately this site got hacked last Dec and lost the old archieves. There was a wealth of info there. I'm basically a rookie also who mostly fished Cayuga but have been making trips to Ontario. I would think your gear from Seneca should be fine for spring browns and such, then bump your mono line test up to 30#, come summer, that will handle the fish and the fleas. If you don't have wire diver setups, that should be one of your first buys for Ontario. For flashers and flies, check out Atomic, he can put together a package for you that's right for Ontario. Go back over all the old posts here and also check out www.glangler.com and you should find some good info. I'm suprised no one responded to your post right away, because most folks here aren't afraid of sharing info. It may be due to tournaments running now. Folks due tend to be a little tight lipped when the tournaments are on. I hope some experienced guys will contribute more info for you.

Yea, I'm looking forward to the Stripers, I think I'll only be about 30 or 40 minutes from the Susquehanna Flats, which is supposed to be hot in the spring. Then I can hit spots all along the Delaware shore of the DE bay from anywhere between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. That's about the same time it takes me to hit Cayuga or Ontario. I'll probably use half the gas though, it's all flatlands. LOL! Many, many moons ago, growing up, I fished the Delaware Bay with my Dad and brothers. Back then it was old flat bottomed wooden skiffs you rented, and they would tow a string of skiffs out aways to fish. When you wanted to come in, you raised an oar. If ya had some money then, you would have a Firestone 7.5 outboard and could motor yourself out. Man, I'd sure like to turn back the clock 50 years and relive those days. I'll be keeping an eye on the board for sure, and will have to make a trip or 2 north for the big Kings. That's all my brother said when I told hiim I was moving, " Well I guess we won't do anymore Salmon fishing".

I hit Cayuga about 1:30 yesterday, man, was it hot! Not the fishing, but the weather, felt like a friggen cooked turkey! Bright sun, no wind, = no fish. Ran D/R's, wire divers and flasher flies, but no takers. Poor choice of times to fish, but the buyers for our house finally got a mortgage commitment and we have just 2 weeks to get out! Figured it would be our last chance to fish for awhile, so what the heck. About 7:00 PM we headed back to Treman and did some perch fishing outside the inlet. They were hitting fairly well so we had some fun and put the boat up without a skunk aboard. Looks like I'll be a saltwater fisherman now, as I'll be in S.E. PA, near the Delaware and Chesapeke Bays.

Looks great Bob, she shined up nice, and you got a helluva deal on that boat. When are you spashing on Ontario?

I bought the minnows at Gander Mtn in Binghamton. I was given a slip with them that is supposed to be good for 7 days. Doesn't say anything about specific bodies of water you can or can't use them in. I figured they could be used in any body of NY state waters.

Took my little boat to Whitney Point yesterday afternoon, got one 12" crappie and a small walleye. Still got a bunch of minnows left and figured I might run up to Cayuga tomorrow afternoon. Got to get the Wellcraft ready in the morning. I'm planning on trying some perching with the minnows and then do a little trolling in the last couple hours of daylight.
