Terminal Tackle for Wire Dipsy Setups
Tim Bromund replied to jigstick's topic in Tackle and Techniques
if you really like dumping divers to the bottom of the lake, please feel free to use crimps. Me, I'll keep using the knot. I've been using that for at least a decade and never once had it fail. -
On Thursday May 14 at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Seminar with Charter Captain Mike Johannes ( On The Rocks Sportfishing) on Spring Tournament Time King Salmon fishing. Mike has been fishing on Lake Ontario since the mid 1970s. In 1991 he started first mating on his fathers chartering business. After his father passed away he took over the business in 2000 and has been doing it ever since on his 32 ft Baja Cruiser out of the port of Wilson. Mike has placed in the top 10 at many tournaments and won the Pro Am Wilson Tournament in 2000. Mike also sponsers the Don Johannes Memorial Scholarship and the Big Fish Fridays at the Pro am tournaments. He will be talking about his techniques and tactics the has made him a successful fisherman on lake Ontario for many years. LOTSA is a group of mainly weekend recreational fishermen who are dedicated to the enhancement of the Lake Ontario Sport-Fishery including the pen rearing project at Olcott. Each meeting also features a sharing of information the current fishing conditions. So come join us and become more successful at fishing Lake Ontario! The meeting will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78 two miles north of Lockport), Lockport, NY 14094. The Seminar is open to the public and free to attend. See WWW.LOTSA.ORG for any questions.

I actually don't like the smooth round handle on the Beckmans, one more thing to think about when extending the handle in the heat of battle to keep the pin lined up with the hole. All the others have octagonal hands that can't spin, making that aspect a no brainer. I had a Long Handled Ranger for years until I foolishly left it sitting in the holder on the open water side, in my slip, and someone decided they needed it more than I did. I've had a Cummings for a number of yearsw and really like it as well. I bought a Beckman a couple years ago when Larry was selling them for a good price on here and through LOTSA, but quite honestly, it quickly was relegated to backup duty in favor of the Cummings. Chas, you do know that Beckman is no longer around, right? Tim

Absolutely, Prior to fleas, all I ever ran on my Rigger rods was 12 lb Trilene XT and many a 30+ king came to net, I really can't remember many breakoffs, but I was using the soft yellow Eagle Claw Starfire rigger rods and Penn 209 reels. Those rods offered a good cushion and drags on those reels are super smooth, plus, with a 2.8:1 retrieve, it's impossible to horse a fish One of many on 12 lb, this one was 32 and change. Tim

when is best for kings in olcott/wilson area
Tim Bromund replied to JC heir's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Personally, there isn't a port I'd rather fish out of in July for kings than Olcott, From the end of June through mid August, our king fishing is amazing. -

18 foot boat trailer tire inflation setting?
Tim Bromund replied to BP Swing's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Trailer tires are built differently than car tires. They have much thicker/stiffer sidewallls. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=219 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Olcott Pen Project - Pens are Going In!
Tim Bromund replied to Tim Bromund's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, I was away from my computer all evening. Almost no one signs up online any more, unfortunately. Bet bet is to just show up a couple minutes ahead of the feeding time you'd like to fill. The marina office has the food, clipboards and life jackets for the kids (required). They can walk you through what the feeding procedures are. It's pretty simple and yes, your 2yo will love it. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Interesting that there's some play involved with the Plastic Boards. I've had the AA Redwood Boards for years and they have run great just as they came.

Wire on Great Lakes 47LC
Tim Bromund replied to overthelimit's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
1000' of 30 lb wire perfectly fills a Daiwa 47 Reel, no backing needed. At least, that's been the case with the 30 lb Malin I've been using for 15 years. That is on the SG47LCA's but I'm pretty sure the GL47's have the same capacity. -

Yup, I ended up putting a trouble light with a 75 W Incandescent bulb under the motor box. That will generate enough heat in that enclosed space to keep the block from freezing down to the mid 20's air temp. I think we got down to 28 last night. Tim
