At Seneca lake state park there were folks on the wall taking pictures of all the boats. How my youngest crew member got these pictures from them I don't know.A great picture for me. She goes off to college after this summer and he turned 79 last weekend.Willie and I started in the fingerlakes . Then we each had camps up at Hughes Marina on Ontario for 20 plus years now we are back to the fingerlakes.
Strange water color and lots of scum on top. Also had a couple bug hatches but. We caught a lot of fish during the derby but we could not break 9lbs. Most of the fish we caught were long and skinny. The bad news is ......lots of lamprey scars... You can see some on the left hand fish. Willie turns 79 next weekend. We been fishing a lot of years. We kept three for the smoker if either of these fish had a belly they would probably be board fish. Maybe the big one is waiting for next weekend. Thanks Bear for putting on the derby.
I painted a couple of these up and ran them today. Pulled behind a dodger I did several fish on them. I just used the latex paint samples at lowes $.99 a color.Brushed it on then clear coated. After several fish the paint was still fine. They [email protected] each its a bargain..
Its a big money derby. Everyone is tight lipped on whats working. You could go down this site and get some good Ideas. There is a ok launch on the N end at the Marina park. There is a new super launch site at Sampson park Its on the E side I would guess 5 miles down 96a. You never know might be beginners luck.
I caught a 1st place fish on a topline years ago. I caught a winning fish 90ft down a couple years ago. You just never know until you try.
Lewis863 you should start one.... Years ago wildman used to have derbys, He had a tackle shop on the Cayuga inlet. Had several big sponsors, pig roast afterwards at Omaleys those were the days....
Launched out of long pt today . It looked scary shallow because the water was crystal clear. A guy was leaving the launch with probably a 30ft sportcraft he did not seem to have any problems. And yea they are bitin...
Neo1945 In my opinion you just kinda nailed it.Some lures are very speed forgiving some your speed has to be spot on. The exact speed for one MFG might be different than another MFG. Bend a spoon catching a fish, Change the hooks. Whats the speed? Take this advise from a guy that is not going to buy anymore $$$$$ probes.....
Yes I know fishhawks have helped some guys.... Not trying to offend anyone.
Glass or aluminum ,Your choice. Most important things for me are Having the trailer set up properly so boat goes on straight everytime,Being able to touch the water to rinse off your hands and release fish,a place for the damm cooler,Be able to get out of the sun, a cuddy to lock your gear in,a flag pole, easy access battery switch. lots of storage.good radio, strong gunnels to mount downriggers or drill holes in. Be able to stand up and move around a little you dont want to be stumbleing around over coolers and tackleboxes when fighting a fish..Power tilt kicker., and I repeat a huge amount of storage. Just 6 lifejackets takes up a lot of storage space. I think white is easiest color to keep clean. I do not know what you need for jigging ,never done it but Ive seen guys out in the direct sun. Ive probably missed a few things.Good luck in your search...
Almost forgot probably most important...A place for ladies to pee...........
I launched a 21ft Arima at meyers today. Its a glass boat around 5000lbs. I went in and out with my kicker.
Looked shallow between the launch and the channel. Didnt fish just a shakedown.
