  1. 3f; The amount of crop irrigation going on in CA doesn't help! John
  2. Nice work RG, enjoyed the tips, & fishing/landing was great. That second fish really tested the crew, great job! Thanks for sharing!
  3. Just wondering if these were designed to catch fishermen more than fish??
  4. FM 57 Tried Blood Run 30lb, but both spools frayed (Lake Ontario Kings ripped them up). Went back to Malin & Mason. IMHO there is a reason that the Blood Run costs less. Good Luck John
  5. ZB; Very nice indeed! Did you get a weight on this beauty? John
  6. TMD; Get familiar with the Willis Knot to join backer & leaders to the core. Once you get the hang of it, it is a great knot. John
  7. RD9: Before you drop the $$$ on the Taloras, give the Shimano TDR's a try only $34 ea (they can be found for less on line), I use the 8 footers, medium & heavy. John
  8. It's been a while since we got any from the shore, will it pick back up?
  9. GLLM: Take a look @ this link, it will explain the palm buttons. http://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=C8z3rjLlkVJzaHcaqsAfbzICADZu O_bIEk93M-LoBgaW5u08IABABKANgyfafi8CksBGgAbXeg-UDyAEBqgQnT9BhQcs8jtP57R9VENOg18Y XmXfZ_suzQhlcawHVebqkx9xDtdG1iAYBgAezofwakAcDqAemvhs&ohost=www.google.com&cid=5G gxE55TNVADqID8WjD59f9Mgx-77bVCoJfJHwBWd8kCJC4&sig=AOD64_28sJWSOXBocLk9BdJOrOrJCM oOZA&rct=j&q=&ved=0CB4Q0Qw&adurl=http://www.pinnaclesystems.com/Ergonomic-Palm-B uttons.html John
  10. GLLM: You could add two palm buttons as a safety feature to insure that your hands are off the die when you cycle the press. Probably a good idea if you have anyone other than yourself operating the presses. Blanks look nice & beefy! Good Luck John
  11. JW Nice catch, & the best use I know of for the Syracuse paper! John
  12. ddubs3: Owned two Lund's 16' side console & a 20' Newport CC, they were great boat's, but are riveted construction, which inherently can lead to problems. I replaced about 20 rivets on the Newport. I purchased a new Hewescraft in 2011, & have been extremely pleased with it. The boat is basically indestructible with normal use. Get your check book ready if you go for a Hewes! Best of luck with your decision. John
  13. Saw this boat making passes on the Western half of Oneida Lake yesterday, they must be getting ready to upgrade their maps.
  14. Bow; IMHO, I think that you would want an engine at or very near the upper end of the horsepower rating on the hull from the manufacturer (check to see if there is a max transom weight in the hull specifications, compare to the engine's weight you are considering). Heavy boats need lots of horsepower to function correctly. Sorry to hear of your troubles, good luck! John
  15. Slide divers won't get down to the 100+ feet we fish out here, 50 degree temps routinely are below 100' on Lake Ontario. I use slide divers for the top 50' for Spring S & T fishing, or for walleyes, & they work great here. Have a great day! John
  16. Took 16th in salmon & 14th in steelhead, both fish also took big fish of the day. It was a great day out of Oswego. Fished in the 450 to 550 depth down 160 to 120.
  17. Palomar knot for the treble, snell the beak hook on, we use a fly tying vise to accomplish the snell. Be sure to cinch up the palomar tight, as the heavy fluorocarbon will slip if you leave it loose. We retie on the boat when we see any fraying in the line.
  18. We went 12 for 15 on Kings up to 24 lbs Saturday out of Oswego, & 7 fish came up high out of temp. Lots of dark fish.
  19. What temperature are you fishing?
  20. Salmonite; If you can move the last set of rollers to the inside of the frame, you could then just slide the winch post the same amount toward the tow vehicle. You do need tongue weight. Good Luck! John
  21. I run 4 traxtech riggers, & most of the time they all get bit.
