  1. Anyone else get the fish contamination study in the mail yesterday? I got a letter from Suny ESF asking if I would participate in a study to see if they could take blood and urine samples from fishermen that eat fish out of Lake Ontario and various bodies of water in the vacinity of Lake Ontario.
  2. I have had my Power Pro on my mast for 5 years now and it is still going strong.
  3. I'm not afraid of the thru hull, I just don't have a spot to drill another hole in the bottom of my boat where it will be accessable if it died and I need to replace it. My engine compartment is so cramped with the washdown seacock, 2 bildge pumps and the actual washdown pump I would have to mount it under the engine. The shoot thru, I could mount right up against the bulk head under the washdown pump and it would be no issue.
  4. You can keep 2 lakers and only one of the two can be in the 25 -30" slot. They do not count twards your 3 of kings, coho, brown or steelhead.
  5. I read that topic. That was about thru hull transducers not shoot thru the hull transducers. I'm talking about transducers that you do not have to drill a hole in the hull. You epoxy the tranducer in the bilge and it shoots through the hull.
  6. Happy Birthday Glen!
  7. I'm upgrading one of my fishfinders and have the option of buying a shoot thru hull transducer. Anyone have any expierence with them? Easy to install?
  8. Live Wire and Hammer Time were my #1 and #2 Spin Doctors for the past couple of seasons.
  9. Good idea Chad. Only issue is they do not smell as strong as Herring.
  10. Auger and 1 rod sold pending payment. I will sell the other rod and the 2 tip ups for $12.00.
  11. For the Sushi fly strips I cut, I just salt them to make them like leather so they stay on the hook.
  12. 1- Strikemaster Lazer 6" hand auger. Like new condition. Only used 5 times. $50.00 - local pickup only 2 - HT Windlass tip ups - Never been used. There is tip up line on them that came with them but I have no idea what lb test it is. $10.00 for both 2 - medium action Gander Mountain Guide Series rods one is 28" and the other is 30" (no reels) - Both for $10.00 I will ship the rods and tip ups at the buyers expense. The auger is local pick up or meet somewhere in the Rochester area.
  13. Get the best of both worlds and run sushi flies. I only use a small piece of one strip on the single hook of the fly. You get the attraction properties of the flies and the smell of cut bait. Brine and cut the strips into smaller strips the day before and store in your cooler. Most of the time you can get more than one fish out of a piece if they are brined correctly.
  14. Cowbells and spin n glows or peanuts trolled from .7 - 1.7 mph on the bottom. If you are catching small ones, you are fishing too shallow.
  15. Chad, Cut the herring up into small strips and salt them the night before and use them on flies. I put the meat on the single hook on my flies. They are easier than cutbait and make your flies work even better.
  16. Happy Birthday Tom!
  17. I would not mind seeing it stay where it is as long as they did more for us sportsmen. Put more DEC enforcement out there to stop poaching and snagging. But since they are not going to do that, I'm all for the cut.
  18. Clean out your mailbox! It says it is full.
  19. I run the Big Jon Multiset rod holders. I have used the Cannons, and the Berts and they are both awesome rod holders. The Big Jons, Cannons and Bert's are all quality rod holders and will hold up to anything Lake Ontario will throw at them. Buy what ever you can afford out of these three and you will be happy. My suggestion would be to stay away from cheaper rod holders and plastic rod holders. You do not want a $200.00 wire combo in a $20.00 rod holder. You will lose at some point. As for the tracks, I would do the same as Vince suggested.
  20. Lakers are most often going to be found in cold water. If you want bigger lakers, look for large deep water flats or deep water structure. I usually find most lakers on the bottom in water 46 degrees or colder. Port to port, laker hang outs vary. I used to fish East of the Genesee River (I- Bay) and target lakers in 120 - 220 fow on the bottom on large open water flats adjacent to structure. The port I currently fish out of, I fish 90 to 150 on structure. The flats off the port I fish are not that productive. There are subtle little parts of shoals and flats that the bigger fish hold on. I have a couple weigh points in my GPS that produce 90% of the big lakers we boat every season. My one weigh point produced a 34lb 6oz laker, 23lb 8oz laker and a 19lb 3 oz laker last season. Another big thing with lakers is the influence of currents and upwellings. Lakers will move to certain areas of the structure during heavier currrents. You will learn this by paying attention to detail and time on the water. The #1 key to laker fishing is SPEED. Keep your ball speed 0.7 - 1.7 and you will be on fish. Chas, if you want help trying to find lakers off your port, feel free to PM me and I can point you in the right direction.
  21. Congrats on retirement! Enjoy the freedom!
  22. You will be very happy with your Scotties. They are good riggers. Good luck with them Lee.
  23. All Cannons have autostop. As soon as the ball reaches the surface, the rigger stops. There is a piece of plastic between the 2 swivels on the cable that break the current and stops the rigger.
