  1. What chinook said regarding the oak/lakeside beach SP. Just don't look for a swimming beach 'cause there isn't one. We like the A loop, you can view the lake conditions easily. If that loop is full we go all the way back to the last loop. We have been slipping the boat the last few years but for longer stays >1 night we will pitch a camp. The only drawback is that there is no fish cleaning at the park and the Orleans County Marine Park cleaning station is most always locked up when we need it.
  2. Thanks for the replies. Mountin'Man called today and the mount is done. Can't wait to pick it up. Anyone have any good ideas how I should present it to my son? He took the rod when it went off and did a great job bringing it in. When we put it in the boat I told him that he'd better make up his mind if he wanted it mounted and that I'd pick up the bill. After all he's a poor UB student. Well to make a long story short, at the end of the day he says "yeah dad we better get it to the taxidermist". I'm sure he'll remember that day long after I'm trollin' in the great beyond. My fondest memories of my Dad are when we were out fishin'.
  3. Saw those great pics on the shanty site Gambler. Who's gonna mount the 'gill for you? We used to fish Honeoye a lot years ago but Silver and Conesus are closer and we key on those two nowadays.I think it's gonna be a while before we hit the ice again.
  4. Mamma fixed up a big pot yesterday. That is probably the best fish chowder I've had. I was back for seconds, and no chest pain after two bowls! Maybe 3 bowls the next time. Can anyone say total cholesterol >300?
  5. 3 BOWLS!!!!!!!!!!!!! That recipe is definitely gonna get used this winter. Maybe take some out on the ice.
  6. OK Eric. I have a bag or two of cheeks in the freezer. Will try this one the next time she fixes fish.
  7. Very nice 'eyes Eric and Jr. Seems you're doing better with the "surf" than I am with the "turf".
  8. Yeah John, it's always sad to put her away for the winter. I can sympathize. We pulled a few weeks back. She's winterized and ready to be put to sleep for the winter. But the 18' with the outboard may see some perch/'eye action if Erie allows.
  9. Great pic Eric. Now I gotta ask one question....Is that gonna be your off season wallpaper till spring? Man, I LOVE to see the younger generation fishing!
  10. Anyone have a phone # for Streeter? How long of a wait? Thanks for the replies. YT, do you have a # for the guy in Dville? I'll do some phone work but may be taking a trip to Ontario, NY.
  11. RayKay, saw your van in the lot fri. We stayed in tight, only did a few browns. Couldn't keep a screamer, probably a king, on a board rod. One of the browns is worth a look. Check out the pic section.
  12. Pic is in the "Pictures" topic listing. That was so easy even a computer illiterate caveman like myself can do it!
  13. Here's a pic of a Brownie my son took out of the Oak 9/21. 20+ on the digital on the water, 19.75# 7 hours later on a spring scale at home. Our last outing on Lake O. It will be 'eyes and perch on Erie with the small boat (flat days).
  14. Skeiner, I've got a lot of pics but it will take me a while to figure out how to post on here. The fish went 20-21# on the water with the digital. 19.75 on a spring scale at home about 7 hours later. My son took it in 39FOW at the Oak. Habanero mag on the probe rigger with 38' of cable out, 60' stretch. 3 WEEKS TOO LATE FOR THE LOC!
  15. Anyone have a good taxidermist they would like to recommend? We took a 20 class brown yesterday and would like a mount. It's already wrapped and in the freezer. Too bad we didn't get this fish during the derby!
  16. Aren't the Kings from Alaska and the left coast 6 year fish? I've always thought that gave them an extra two years to pack on the lbs. Seems to me our fish were running a few pounds lighter this season. If you look at last year's LOC salmon division, the 20th place would have beaten the grand prize weight this year.
  17. Go to attheoak and scroll down to lake temps. You can also go to the NOAA site for waves, temp and levels.
  18. I'm looking for an intact swivel head housing for an older Walker electric. I don't need the pulley or line guide. My epoxy fix just didn't cut it. I know 307 has them but if anyone has one laying around I'll take it off their hands.
  19. Saw some jointed-J's on the counter at Captain's Cove at the Oak today.
  20. BTW, I see there is a walleye division but NO minimum weight for walleye board entry in the rules.Am I missing it? I'm guessing it's #10 as per the trout division?
  21. Daily, in this order: Attheoak and their wunderground marine forecast LOTSA LOU GLA spoonpullers
  22. Happy B Day YOUNGSTER! Like I tell all the cons at work "I'm breathin' air and above ground so I got it half beat". But what scares me is when my adult son jokingly (?) tells me...."At the first sign of slippage I'm gonna ram you into a nursing haome DAD". He always has this strange smile on his face when he says that. SCARY!
  23. Ray, we fish both, 'eyes on Erie and kings on Ontario. The fight of a walleye was best described by one of my adult sons a few years back, when he said "Dad catchin' these walleye is like PICKIN' TOMATOES". I believe the kings have him spoiled!
