windburn replied to skipper19's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Aye, Mateys. Gonna be a long winter. EH? -
My guess is whitefish. Caught one a few years back while ice fishin' on Simcoe. That one went 4#. Fought like heck on 2# test. Very good table fare.

Oak 9/11&12; the last hurrah
windburn replied to MANIAC's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Good report Eric. Glad to hear someone's catching them. We're gonna try to get up sat for one last shot. Will pull the boat back home and probably close up the camper a few weeks later. We'll hit Erie for eyes and perch with the 18' and be looking for some venison after that. seeya -
Ray it is a bowfin. I caught one about 6# a few years ago in the channel. We were doing the spring brown thing in the 18', the lake kicked up so we went in and were fishing perch with minnies in shallow. It fought real good, thought it was a northern until I got it boatside. "What the heck is this!"Didn't take long to ID it when I got back home to the computer. Released it of course, but what a suprise when we first saw it. Are you gonna target them now?
-
Geesh Eric, didn't know, otherwise I'd have slapped you on the back and hollered HAPPY BIRTHDAY MANIAC!!! "Wish I wish you catch a BIG 40# fish". (during the fall LOC, of course!)

windburn replied to rdebadts's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Yep, skippies are about all we did fishing fri evening/sat morning. Could not find any majors from 25-28N to 17W. I think we had a few 5-6# steelies but that was it. Dropped a few also. YT, saw you coming in early fri evening as we were putting in at the new COUNTY west launch. Be back out later this week. DAYBREAK on ch10. -

Thanks for the report Don. Are you slipping the boat this season? -
They had my 4-flat trailer connector plugged. Gotta keep the cover on that connector and make life hard for the little PIA's.

Eric, that is a HORSE! Way to go CAPTAIN!

Very nice brownie. Did you happen to get a weight before the release?

Orleans State Marine Park OPEN SOON!!!
windburn replied to skipper19's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I spoke with Ms Martillotta this afternoon and she was most appreciative of my big THANK YOU. Seems Orleans County will be running the west side state launch. Restrooms will be open with normal operation of launch per Ms Martillotta. She is unsure about launch fees at the present time. Thanks for your part in this Skip19. We've been using the west side launch for the last 10 years and prefer the ample parking. If any of you guys use that launch it might be a good idea to take a minute to make a thank you call to show support. -
Orleans State Marine Park OPEN SOON!!!

That's GOOD news. She will get a thank you call from me tomorrow. I can imagine what a jam the east side county launch/parking lot would be on weekends as the season progresses. -

Orleans county/ Point Breeze/ THE OAK etc. tourism/launch
windburn replied to skipper19's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Skip, no launch docks in to the west as of noon today. It REALLY aggravates me that NYS has the gall to increase fishing licenses fron 19 to 29 bucks, an approximate 50% hike, and then limit our access to the lake. I will be putting ink to paper to my state senator and assemblyman. It would be nice if Orleans County took control of the west side, they seem to do a good job on everything to the east. -

Any slim chance the docks are in at the state launch (west) yet? Planning on hittin' the water tomorrow. Shakedown time and maybe some cohos/browns. I'll launch out of the county launch if I have to but always prefer the better parking to the west. -

Skip, good talkin' to ya at the launch. Next time I'll remember to pull a boat up. -

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I know the county launch lot can get real crowded, that's why we've been using the west launch for years. Hopefully our wonderful(?) legislators can maybe get something done. Oh, I forgot, they're always on some kind of break or vacation! Guess I better not hold my breath. I guess this is what we get for increases in licence fees..LIMITED ACCESS. Hope they ALL get voted out this november. -

Docks in on the west side yet? -
LL, I will attempt to take a night time pic within a day or so. I may need a tutor to post as I haven't posted pics in a while.

Hey JK, believe me they are huge. I have the pleasure(?) of living amongst them here in Wyoming County. I don't want to have to see the da** things when I'm out trolling the Oak! The hills out here are littered with red clearance lights at night. I might as well be living in an urban area.
