  1. 100 yards/ 10 colors should get you down 40-50 feet depending if you are running spoons, flashers, etc. If you can buy 200 yards/ 20 colors at a better price than a single 100 yard spool go ahead and get the bigger spool. Just spool up only 10 colors this year, and then you already have new leadcore for when you re- spool again in a couple years. There's always the possibility of getting tangled up and losing some of your core and having to buy new anyways.
  2. You need to tell us your likes, hobbies, etc. I put up a post like this many years ago and got many great suggestions from everyone here. Have a little fun with it.
  3. Has Been. I have found glow green, and glow blue spray paint in a can at auto zone before. I believe it was oil based. I have also seen glow green acrylic paint at home improvement stores. I have used it and it works. You have to put it over a base coat of white, and it does leave a slight yellowish film over the white but it does glow.
  4. Looks like the launch ramps on the west side of the Oak are on the list.
  5. To answer your question coast to coast I'm sure many captains would have no problem running a learning charter and you would learn a lot. Volunteering as an observer at one of the Pro ams will give you a chance to also go out on a different boat and learn how others fish. The earliest salmon fishing usually is down at the west end of the lake near the niagara river, and seems to pick up at other ports as the season goes on. Good luck out there. I don't have an opinion on speed/temp probes yet as I'll also be adding that to the arsenal this year.

I couldn't get it to work last night or this morning, but It let me on the NY page a minute ago. I couldn't get it to work for days after the server switch.
  9. Thank's for the suggestions on how else to rig it up guys. Took it out on lake alice with my son this morning and it worked like a charm. Didn't catch anything but my son was ready to go home after an hour. Hope to give it a try again in the morning. - Mick
  10. What else. Build an ice fishing sled. I had the barrel in the cellar, and all the wood and hardware were just hanging around. The runners are 1 old lawn chair repurposed, and are lighter than conduit, but the sled was able to haul both of my kids in different turns when they got of the bus today. It pulled easily on the snow we had left in the yard, and i can lift it up myself easily. The SLED actually turs into a wind break when turned on end, which was my main goal in the beggining of the project. So for free I now have a cool ice fishing sled/windbreak I'm still contemplating about adding a flip over cover to be warm with the heater on the colder days, and will definately add some rod holders in the near future. I had to make it even more redneck since I live in Lyntucky with an old power cord as my pull/drag line.(with plug still attached ). I'm sure Ray would be proud. Hopefully I'll get it out by Sunday. _
  11. I think that last weekend is also the same weekend as the Wilson scotty, so at least if you are going to fish the scotty tournament you can fish the Loc also. If you win or place a top fish you would have to get to the Loc awards ceremony on that Sunday from Wilson though.
  12. Happy B-day Jason. Have one on me
  13. The shanty is down Snagger, how's things out your way?- Mick
  14. Yep so we fished the North end today. Ended up south east of the park a little in 7-10 fow There were at least 20 Shanty's there when we set up and other souls who braved the cold in the open. This was the first time there today this season so I'm not shure how it has been. Even with the cold it was great to get out today. We found 4-5 inches of ice where we were. Good luck and be safe out there everyone - Mick
  15. Well for my second season ice fishing since before my teenage years I guess I'm starting to get the hang of this. I could be drifting the streams for big steelies, and browns , but instead I'm walking on water- gotta love it. Every year I seem to fish a new body of water that I haven't been to before. I think the Bass I got last year was a little bigger. Thank's Mark -Mick

    Ice Shelters

The way the weather has been down there Ray you might have to.
  17. Where are you fishing Kliph? I also know someone who fishes dipsies off of copper but I won't name any names seriously though I would think on Lake Ontario most divers are fished with ss wire line, and that copper and leadcore are used by so many fisherman because of their abilities to achieve a desired depth in the water without having to be used with a diving device, or set on a rigger, etc. I have ran the 2 color core or SWR with some results before also though.
  18. That would be cool. Now I'll get even less work done
  19. Unfortunately these fish are filter feeders and will be eating all the same food that our baitfish, and other smaller fish eat. It appears they are not at all easily caught on hook and line unless they are snagged. I believe the only way they are caught in the mississippi and other waters they have spread to already are by nets.
  20. Nk mag gold 42 took the most spoon bites on my boat this year. The super slim firecracker, and death wish did pretty good also.
