  1. Horns? Tell it true, you're hunting cow, aren't you? Yum.
  2. That's better than the forecast I saw yesterday... They moderated the overnight low from -17 on Thursday night to -13. Your pee's going to freeze before it hits the ground, if you're even willing to expose the willy. This is how family legends get started! Aim small, shoot straight.
  3. Question on the above regulation: does an orange hat alone meet the requirement? Because it seems like you only have to fulfil one of the three to be legal - obviously you don't have to fulfil all three, or we'd be decked out in both solid and patterned orange, which is a fashion faux pas lol.
  4. Camera have been in decline the past two weeks. I pulled one property's; the other is staying active until the end. I did grab an SD card and was amazed at the "flip a switch" lack of pictures from November 6th onward in this particular spot. I didn't realize it when the camera was live, until I started going through the card itself. Either lockdown or more likely increased pressure from crossbow on an adjoining property. It's crazy how small spots are impacted by boots on the ground.
  5. lol! You are not wrong about the stupid shortages and cost overruns. I've been waiting for almost a year for my lab renovation to be finished. We are currently working all of us out of basically a closet. There must be a single 97 year old half-blind, drunk who builds epoxy benchtops somewhere in northern Saskatchewan, and nowhere else to source them. Otherwise, I don't get the delay. So, what's your load formulation that uses 150 grains of BH? If I tried to load that, I think my gun would explode. Does the Paramount accept higher loads? I know many black power formulations use 150 grains, but in terms of energy that equates more to the 110-120 grain range for BH209. Not trying to be a know-it-all...just don't want to see damage to a new gun...but what do I know? Blackhorn publishes load data on their site. Interesting looking at it just now, I see that the 110 grains I use is calculated in a volumetric measure, which equates to only 77 grains actual weight on a scale. I'm glad I use volume to measure it out!!! Big. Bada. Bang.
  6. Is my math off? 8 oz is 3500 grains, at 110 grains per shot that's $2.48 a shot...which is not insignificant, but not too bad either. I bought two of the 8 oz bottles many years ago for my Accura V2, and I'm still on the first bottle. Of course, I only shoot a couple rounds to make sure the scope is sighted in and then a round or two in the field (if I'm lucky). So at my current burn rate I figure I'm good for 15 years, give or take But in direct response to your question, nope, I can't find anywhere more reasonable. Canadian, you know? COVID, the border, supply chain issues, staffing, all that stuff that folks talk about when $hit goes awry. Heck, these days my wife is using those arguments rather than just saying she has a headache :).
  7. Do they guarantee you two coyotes? Because I'd settle for just one. I haven't seen a dog since gun opened.
  8. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
  9. That's right, Mal is officially at DEC now. Good for her!!
  10. Every day I open my computer hoping to be able to annoy my wife with those wonderful Xmas lights at the top of the screen. Then I cry a little when they aren't there and try to get through the rest of my day. Hope springs eternal.
  11. Could somebody remind me? I'd thought that the holiday hunt was doe only, but the DEC website clearly states that deer of either fun loving may be taken. Did this change since last year? Or am I crazy? I guess the two are not mutually exclusive...
  12. So many stories like this over the years. I guess the owners aren't aware of the reputation they've garnered, or simply don't care because there's always another shill out there. It's easy to dismiss one or two incidents, since most folks are quick to voice complaints but not compliments. But when you hear the same thing over and over... So, I guess what I'm asking is: has anyone on LOU ever had a good interaction with Bryce? Without going into details, all I can say is that I will never deal with them again.
  13. I've heard that PayPal won't refund monies sent through friends and families, since there's no way to chase down the truth of the matter. Unfortunately, it makes sense. While it sucks for you, it may serve as a caution other folks. If you use PayPal, it should be set up as a legitimate transaction for goods or services rendered. Yeah, they will have to pay a bit more in "fees", but consider it insurance. The same applies to using any online system such as Venmo, where peer-to-peer transfer is instant. And be very careful in linking your bank account to any of these services. If hackers get in, they could wipe you out, and you have limited protections. If you link a credit card instead, then there's a cap on what they can take, and the credit card protection for unauthorized transactions kicks in. Scammers suck. I do hope that there is some resolution for you.
  14. I hope she has a good tether strap lol...
  15. x3 on the lack of blood. I'm shooting a .270 Winchester round, and I made a perfect shot at 40 yards. I don't know if there just wasn't enough time for the bullet to expand, but my entrance and exit holes were quite small, with zero blood until about 3 yards from where he died, then there was only a very light mist visible only because of the snow. He went 80-100 yards before expiring. I guess I'm used to broadheads, which leave a blood trail a blind man could follow. So, did you find the buck? Good luck.
  16. That's crazy for NY. Thanks for sharing! You reminded me that we were supposed to fish together this summer...I was away on a trip when we last communicated, and we never touched base afterward. My apologies! Let's make sure to do it next year.
  17. Thoughts on ozone: it definitely works, but the reason it works is that deer don't associate it with danger, But it is a dominant "odor" - you can certainly detect it, anyway. So, what happens when deer become conditioned to ozone? Are you then dousing your stuff in danger signal? I can foresee a time when it becomes prevalent enough to cause deer to react negatively. Ie, getting bumped by a hunter wearing ozone enough times is going to have an impact. I use it on my clothes for now, but am keeping an open mind for the future.
  18. I'm in!! Just no gut or head shots please. Kill me clean. It better be good bourbon.
  19. If Rage failed every time, then nobody would use them. I suspect every dog has its day lol.. Nice buck.
  20. You probably want to call first, wherever you take it, to check whether they have a dumpster. Apparently there's a new permit requirement? Not sure whether it's statewide or local. I picked up a deer a few weeks ago and got two bags of carcass along with my meat. The juices looked great on my work clothes, and the folks I met with afterwards appreciated the smell. Just an FYI. It's all good, so long as you're prepared to dispose of the remains.
  21. Saw my first real deer in four days from the stand this morning, then still hunted and had a close encounter with a (non-shooter) eight point. My buddy I was hunting with saw a bunch of bucks on doe. So, you're saying there's still a chance... My wife says that's it's tipped the scale from hobby to obsession. I asked her how it took her 25 years to figure that one out.
  22. Can you tell IT'S ON!! Nice bucks, boys! I saw 2 minutes of chasing yesterday evening, and otherwise my hunts have been bird watching. It's going to change momentarily though. Can't rain forever...
  23. Like most on here, this stuff really burns me. I can't believe that the DEC is providing guidance that plastic lockable gun cases will suffice to meet the law for storage in a vehicle, when the language clearly states that you need a "lockable, fireproof gun case". If you don't want to spend $1K on a gun case that fits the bill, then you're in violation, regardless of what DEC says. Details matter when you're writing laws, legislators!! It doesn't matter what you mean, it's what you put on paper. And Strong Hospital has now posted signs that state, "No weapons allowed, in accordance with blah, blah, blah". Because signs prevent criminals from carrying already-illegal firearms. I did hear an interesting take on that part of the law which states that you need to post signage making guns welcome, and by default they are illegal to carry into a privately held building. Seems silly to me, but a friend suggested that this might be a tool to be able to prosecute some bad dude who they can't get otherwise, but who they know is always carrying. Like Al Capone was nabbed on tax evasion charges. I'd love to hear our law enforcement brethren's take on this....feasible or not? Is this law a tool that will be used to nab otherwise untouchables?
  24. Very cool! My evening sit consisted of having a big buck watch me climb into my stand, then walk away slowly. Priceless. That was the only deer I saw. It must be the rut...boom or bust.
