  1. Mark...No problem. I think we can have most of the bases covered. Probably not out again till next weekend
  2. Nice morning. 47 degree water and pretty good color. First rod in the water went off almost immediately. Smokin drag and a vicious run to the boat. What a way to start off the 2009 season. 13lb king. Little while later my brother gets a nice surprise, 7 lb walleye. We ended the short morning 5 for 5. Mixed in a few cohos. Its been a long winter. Hopefully this is an omen of this season. Good luck and tight lines .....Matt
  3. Name: Matt French Boat Name Missdemeanor Boat Make : 31 Baha Sportfisherman Home port:Rochester Number of years on L.O: 30
  4. Just installed the Fish hawk x-4. Splashing the boat soon and I'm anxious to check it out.
  5. Yea thats not my usual spring haunt, but I figured it would be nice an easy for the small boat, plus its nice and close to home.....
  6. Fished out of Sandy today. Not much to report other than skim ice on the lake. The lake was dead flat with no wind. the ice was really screwing up the flat lines. Around 10:00 I had a rip on one of the inline boards. Never saw the fish but it made a nice run with a few head shakes. I never did turn him. Might have been a bigger brown or a king. That was my only hit for the morning.
  7. Rick.....Looks like you got that brownie fishing down......Now just brak out the evil eyes and your all set.
  8. Glenn.....Just so you know the only places around us,in NY, for fingerprints is US CG In Buffalo and the USCG in Messina. That was right off the OUPV license application and the Chief in station Rochester. I know of guys who had quite a bit of trouble getting an appt to get their prints done. I went to Buffalo and those guys were great. Its a real pain to go there. Heck I fingerprint people everyday and I still had to go to Buffalo. Good luck....
  9. Web its all good my man... The guys on here that are serious musky fishermen know what time it is when you get a big girl to the boat. As much of a "Don't handle a fish like this" video , its still one hell of a muskie.
  10. You know I didn't want to post anything, but I agree with you nitro.....Those fish are real sensitive and need to be handled properly. Its a great trophy no question. As it would make one hell of a replica mount. A big fish like that could get stressed very easily and like nitro said ....belly up time. Some areas of the country are not experiencing the disastrous effects that VHS has had on our muskie population. The Niagara river and Lake Erie fisheries are in big trouble right now. It may take a closed season for many years to protect what muskie population we still have......
  11. Irondequoit bay........Not a very fun place to hunt. TONS of Pressure l(Like said on a previous post) and once the shooting starts the ducks are hell bent for shoe leather. If you hunt divers and don't have a boat, you really limited. Puddle ducks you could get away with hunting Tonowanda or Oak Orchard WMU's. Those areas are pretty much walk in spots. Like Irondequoit, there is a lot of pressure there. I choose to canoe back to small open water pockets. There are dikes that run through the properties, but thats usually where you'll encounter the skybusters. In the late season the Lake Ontario shoreline can be good. You just have to have a nice south wind. Certain areas I hunt on the lake you still need a small boat to put out the decoys. Any wind other that south you are pretty much screwed. My suggestion is getting a boat. It will open up a ton of opportunities. Like posted on the other thread, the open water hunts are great. Check out my previous post viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8835

  13. Brian.....most of my local ramps are froze up.....This was a western port hunt.
  14. Oh boy was it ugly.......... The inside of my boat looks like Jeffery Dahmer was at an all you can eat buffet........LOl....
  15. SS....I hunt in the vicinity of Braddocks bay....Within about 6 miles. When the first shot went off in Braddocks, the Ducks made a mass exodus off the bay. It was pretty telling when they were flying at 2K feet and when you called at them they just got higher....LOl...that's duckin for ya....
  16. I was out too. We hunted a field and did pretty well considering the set up. 18 birds consisting of Mallards, teal, Wigeon and Blacks. Could have smoked some honkers but somehow the call fell out of my bag . Nice........No pics, my camera and raining conditions don't like each other.
  17. Stan..... Its all good brother...Wasn't bent in the least. Just really never heard of that term. Just like you I learn every time I go out. For the past 30 years Ive tried different baits, techniques, and presentations. Some worked, some did not. My way of thinking is how do you know it won't work if you didn't try it? Sometimes thinking out of the box can come up with a technique that will get you totally dialed in while the other boats are washing lures. My point is try new stuff......It sure sounds like you may be a pioneer in Salmonoid fishing in your parts. Way to go my man......
  18. Good luck Stan, Hope you guys get into em......
  19. Never heard of a dipsey referred to as a junk rig. I just call them fish catching implements. There are more days than not that a dipsey will outproduce a downrigger. I'll stick to what works for me.........
  20. Stan, The Scotty pinch pad rigger releases are the nuts. I like them and the blacks. Ive had some false releases on the blacks before, but not so many that I would be nervous. Thanks again about the lures. We are starting to get into some heavy duty musky weather here...Possibly snow on Tuesday......Between waterfowl, Deer, and Muskies, my fall is going to be jammed packed.....Tight lines.....
  21. Brian, Rochester had one way before the Oak and Sodus.....Typical of the area, the interest was low. I fished it for the last three years it was held. The number of participants was less and less every year till it eventually died.............We''l see what happens I guess.
  22. Stan That is what we called a deep dive down and out. What you do is set the dipsey on 0...So it dives straight down. Let it back about 80 ft or so. Then set out your down rigger to the 100 ft mark. That dipsey and bait should be down around 130ft give or take. Troll about 2.2 or 2.4. Don't use your wire line..LOL.. Make sure its on a mono rod..... Where we fish the water can be very clear. Then I might take a smaller dipsey set it on the farthest setting so it really goes away from the boat. I let it back about 30 ft then hook it up to my rigger. I usually run the rigger about 10ft above where I'm marking fish. Alot of times the vibration in the water from the cables or the rigger ball will scare the fish. This set up is called a "Down and Out". Some guys use size 0 dipseys. I tend to go with the quarter sized big john diver disks. Never did get those Siscos.....Good luck with that extreme depth trolling.
