  1. Cougars will also eat porcupines.......
  2. Pretty good perch fishing on I-bay the last 2 weekends....Not alot of real big fish, but you don't have to work too hard to fill a bucket with cleanable fish.....
  3. I'm aware of cannonball designs that allow for tuning the cannonball to run to port and starboard, but I'm not aware of an in-cable device that accomplishes that........
  4. What he said.......
  5. Browning A-Bolt .22-250, 1:14....... light and fairly accurate with Hornady 50 and Sierra 55 grainers over IMR-8208 XBR.
  6. Congrats to her...... I hope I'm still breathing at 70!
  7. Very nice, and congrats to the 2 of you. That's a great background in the photo of the lad and his buck............. thick NE woods......
  8. A couple years ago, I ordered an Okuma rod through Amazon...... it showed up in a triangular fed ex box and the box was destroyed.... as was the rod. The replacement rod was sent at no cost to me, and it showed up in the identical box, only this one made it through without damage...... I wonder what the probability of receiving an undamaged rod would be from Indonesia? we'll be waiting...........
  9. Shipping estimate is a little different....... from Indonesia ..... it's free to put the order on a boat and the ETA is 3 - 4 weeks..... or if you fed ex, it's $130 and you get it in 8 - 12 days.... that was for an "order" of one centerpin reel......
  10. Yes it was.
  11. #1. I had a friend lose his license for a year after jumping out of his vehicle, taking some number of steps off the road, loading his shotgun, and then shooting a coyote..... not sure how many steps. But the issue had to do with the "maintained" portion of the road, not how many steps he was off the road..... He had permission to hunt there, and was not within 500 feet of a dwelling, and was not shooting across the road......The DEC officer was on site later with a tape measure trying to determine how far off the center-line of the road the shooter was when he discharged the gun...... My advice would be not to do #1.
  12. Beikirchs is another source.......... Good, knowledgeable people. http://beikirchs.com/
  13. That stinks....... I hope the guy comes to his senses, but it sure doesn't sound good.
  14. on one end of the spectrum is a public land hunt....... If you can kill a trophy buck on public land you have earned it, or have been extremely lucky..... in any event, it is the most respected trophy as most of them are earned... someplace in the middle is the private land..... food plot.....lease the land.....limited access "type" hunt..... you're still paying for the animal in some ways..... and probably more than $50, as Momay4000 has mentioned On the other extreme is the pay to hunt "fenced" type hunts...... If you've got the cash and want the horns..... it's the quickest way to your objective. SF, I'm guessing you're a public land man.......
  15. very nice, what county?
  16. That's a wonderful story..... congrats! looking forward to more pics.
  17. That's excellent Bill...... good shootin' too. 250 at night is no easy deal.
  18. Blue tongue....???
  19. I've taken a fair number of creek kings this fall, and 85% have been males...... unless the females are still in the lake, something is way different this year. Even back in September, I made a trip to the Niagara Bar and had a great day boating 14 kings...... 3 were females.
  20. 2 weeks ago, I watched a redtail whack a crow on the ground. He sunk talons into the crows' head and chest, and while the crow was thrashing around, 4 geese which were feeding in the same field came walking over to the attack (for whatever reason)....... The hawk got nervous and then carried the flapping crow by the head about 30 yards away, and landed there to finish the job....... pretty cool.... In the attack, the hawk dropped out of the air, carrying lots of speed about 2 feet over the field, and he never stopped until plowing into the crow (still on the ground), hooks extended......
  21. In Lake Ontario and the tribs, we have the finest salmonid fishery in the country, but for whatever reason, we (New York State) do not treat it that way. If this kind of BS took place in Montana / Wyoming / Idaho / Alaska..... someplace with a REAL enforcement and punishment system...... these violations would be minimized. I've stood on the Driving Park bridge next to a Conservation Officer with binoculars watching salmon snaggers at work. He would not go down into the gorge. Out of fear, or frustration, or whatever.... he would not go enforce the laws he was watching being broken. When I pressed him for a response, he mentioned that he was responsible for patrolling from Niagara County to Monroe county, and more or less used "coverage" as an excuse..... but in my mind, on that day, he stood there, watching criminal activities and choose to do nothing. If Team Green could care less, do you really expect the guy in the video to have any respect for the law? That event was years ago. In todays' digital world, I'm sure the CO wouldn't even go stand on the bridge to look....too many cell phones watching.
  22. That's not it...... there would be cigar tobacco stuck between molars if it were......
  23. http://www.peer.org/news/news-releases/court-finds-cormorant-mass-killing-policy-illegal.html PEER is at the root of the change to stop controlling cormorants. They appear to be a Washington based Environmental Activist group that uses a "whistleblower" spin on their efforts to "protect" the environment. The quickest way to jam things up is to threaten/apply litigation. Of course, the situation on the Toronto Islands, Galloo, etc..... is crystal clear from Washington.
  24. The shotgun that will serve you best is one that fits, and that's often overlooked when buying any new shotgun.......
  25. You may be better off looking for several charter boats on the Niagara River........ No shortage of mature kings there in mid-October.
