In Lake Ontario and the tribs, we have the finest salmonid fishery in the country, but for whatever reason, we (New York State) do not treat it that way. If this kind of BS took place in Montana / Wyoming / Idaho / Alaska..... someplace with a REAL enforcement and punishment system...... these violations would be minimized. I've stood on the Driving Park bridge next to a Conservation Officer with binoculars watching salmon snaggers at work. He would not go down into the gorge. Out of fear, or frustration, or whatever.... he would not go enforce the laws he was watching being broken. When I pressed him for a response, he mentioned that he was responsible for patrolling from Niagara County to Monroe county, and more or less used "coverage" as an excuse..... but in my mind, on that day, he stood there, watching criminal activities and choose to do nothing. If Team Green could care less, do you really expect the guy in the video to have any respect for the law? That event was years ago. In todays' digital world, I'm sure the CO wouldn't even go stand on the bridge to look....too many cell phones watching.

http://www.peer.org/news/news-releases/court-finds-cormorant-mass-killing-policy-illegal.html PEER is at the root of the change to stop controlling cormorants. They appear to be a Washington based Environmental Activist group that uses a "whistleblower" spin on their efforts to "protect" the environment. The quickest way to jam things up is to threaten/apply litigation. Of course, the situation on the Toronto Islands, Galloo, etc..... is crystal clear from Washington.

You may be better off looking for several charter boats on the Niagara River........ No shortage of mature kings there in mid-October.

LOC Summer Derby!
Traveling Circus replied to Sarah Chilson's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
Well put Bill....... Without a weigh station close to the creek, Fishing out of Sandy in the weekday evening requires a trailering fisherman to quit fishing by 6:30 so he can safely run in, load the boat on the trailer(hoping there is no line at the dock), then drive 20 miles to the Oak (on the back roads, because the Parkway is the road equivalent of 4 footers), in time to make the 8:00 PM deadline...... It makes the decision to not fish the LOC derby a little easier to arrive at..... here's to hoping that one rule change would be considered -

Some years ago, we snagged via cannonball, an old piece of submerged gill net on Lake Erie. The net was full of rotting fish and was a tangled mess of mono netting. We were happy to cut our way out of it and watch it sink back into the depths.......... but the stink remained on us, and I think it does to this very day........

Fished from about 5 til 6:30, and landed a couple browns and a shaker........ not a monster, but we weighed in a 10 lb 7 oz fish in the Orleans...... East wind was blowing pretty hard........ it was not easy fishing. The screen was pretty much barren..... a little bait here and there, and the fish were on the bait. We spent most of the night in 80 - 90 FOW...... If it blows like this for very long, temps will be coming way up.

I've run Shimano Triton rods that were purchased in the 90's for downrigging, with a twilli tip and they've worked fine......... like above, they may not be perfect, but they've worked fine and keep on ticking.
