I'll bet he said he got them at the "Can"...... the red Can.... off the Niagara river. I think the can is 4 ish miles out of the mouth of the Niagara. There's a drop off very close to the can, where the bottom drops from roughly 50 to 150 fetet. It can be fantastic fishing there when conditions are right. -
My daughter and I fished out of the Catt yesterday morning in 55 FOW and wound up with 75 perch in the cooler. The weather was perfect, and the fish cooperated at a decent pace. Emeralds on the bottom were the ticket.... many perch were spitting up small gobies, and the perch pack was spread from about 50 to 60 straight out of the harbor. seemed like not many boats strayed from the group.... One female still had eggs. Fun day.

I think the bird populations are down in Monroe county townships......don't really understand the reason, but I know we didn't bump that many when hound hunting coyotes this winter... It's the second year I've noticed the decline... Wet Spring in '12 & '13? Too many predators? Too many hunters? Who knows? I'd be interested to know what guys think about a 1 bird limit? or maybe 1 bird 5/1 - 5/15 and 1 bird 5/16 - 5/31...??? Plenty of squirrels where I hunt, but definitely not as many turkeys as 5 - 10 years ago...... I'd support a 1 bird limit.

Sporting clay o/u Reccomendation?
Traveling Circus replied to salmonite's topic in Hunting Equipment
I agree with Duckman that fit is critical for a clays gun or any shotgun. Beretta has been supplying their autos with adjustable shims/washers (to adjust cast and drop of the buttstock) since their 390 models. There are other less aesthetic ways to adjust a stock (Velcro spacers) and some experts can actually bend wood stocks using heat, oil, and pressure.... but I've had great luck with the Beretta autos(390's and 391's) for clays and hunting...... and would highly recommend them. Keep them clean, and they're very reliable. Benelli's also come with shims, and they're an inertia based recoil system, so they are less prone to powder fouling...... but my experience is all with Beretta's, and it's all good..... -

You can also find stocks in various stages of finishing at the local gunshows...... the bigger the show, the more options you will have.... The nice thing about finishing/fitting an unfinished butt stock is you can make the gun actually fit you...... Remingtons are typically low for me, but if you start with a stock that is slightly high, you can file/sand/repeat until you bring it down and tweak the cast until it fits perfectly..... Last year I did this with an Ithaca M37(1948) in 12 ga. fixed mod, and now the gun fits..... has an adequate recoil pad on it.... and is 3/4 lb heavier than it was when I started, (so I can shoot it without getting whooped on).... Tru-oil, as DJ mentioned...... the stock looks mint.

Sandy Creek Parking Lot Break-in 5/9
Traveling Circus replied to Traveling Circus's topic in Open Lake Discussion
It wasn't my vehicle, but I spoke with the gentleman who owned the truck....... Happened in the middle of the afternoon when they were the only vehicle in the lot.......Border patrol is there quite often......So, hopefully they'll be caught....... one way or another. -
Be aware...... yesterday, a tow-vehicle window was smashed out as a couple of fishermen were out on the lake. Nothing in the vehicle to take, so they took the registration and owners manual.......??????

Torpedo Divers Antenna for Moor Subtroll?
Traveling Circus replied to Gator's topic in Open Lake Discussion
After breaking off a probe, I started using cannon ball snubbers, by Scotty I think.... The would help soften hi speed stops too.... Although my old cannons certainly aren't hi speed by any means. -
Torpedo Divers Antenna for Moor Subtroll?

Keith.... I tried the Torpedo uncoated cable last year as a replacement to coated cable on a Depth Raider. The 1st spool I got from them had a twisted single strand of the stainless "outer wrap" about 50 ft. in. I cut it out reterminated and called to complain....... they immediately shipped me a replacement......, but it made me uneasy. , I then had trouble getting a reliable signal deeper than 40 ft..... I reterminated it exactly as described and still had trouble...... so I wound up going back to coated cable. If you want to try it, I've got 2 spools of it that I'd be happy to get rid of for $50.One of the spools is 200 ft. and the other is approximately 150. It is thinner..... if you can get it to run, I'm sure it's a better option.... I just got frustrated after 3 attempts.... -
A friend who has fished with us in the past received the same survey..... He's a lifelong Hilton resident, lives on the lakeshore, and planned on submitting to the tests.....

Back in the day....... on Lake Erie Walleye fishing we had a rigger "bog down" during a retrieve....... we nursed it to the surface to find our cannonball tangled in a drifting mess of abandoned gill net........ full of stinky perch, white bass, sheepshead....... mmmmmm. But I'm thinking if we would have just cranked it up it could have broke us off.....
