  1. Great Post!....OK I give! Are you buying these online (Big Weenie Flies) or do they sell them down their at Seneca Marine?
  2. Was just talking to my dad about this over the weekend. He used to pull me from school every year on April first so we could go stream fishing (We usually fished the Keuka Outlet and sometimes Catherines). Neither one of us has had any interest in stream fishing for about ten years. I heard there's a stream or two on the East side of Cayuga to pull some brookies from I may try a week or so after the rush is over...but I'd much rather be pulling lines.
  3. So an even dozen is what it takes to make Nick smile! Nice job guys! thanks for the report!
  4. Nice pics! Do you trailer your boat? My dad keeps his boat at Seneca Lake State Park and there's a trophy like that next to him owned by an old-timer.
  5. Thats easy to do working that trench! I like it too though...when I swing to the west side I usually do pretty good dragging bottom heading south just off the point by the country club. The north end of the trench just in front of the Belhurst is hot too...hooked up there with my first triple last year. Jason-What depths did those lakers come from? I'm usually not out this early in the year so I haven't quite got them pinned down yet.
  6. I heard bad weather was coming tomorrow so I switched around the schedule to go out fishing with my dad this evening. We started a south troll at the pumphouse in about 60 FOW and trolled out to 95 without a single mark....Swung around and marked a lot around 15 FOW but no takers. First time on Seneca in '09 turns up a SKUNK! As always, it was great getting out with my Dad...Here's a shot of inactivity.
  7. My dad called me today and wants to go out Sunday afternoon. We will probably troll the east side toward the North End (High Banks). Usually this time of year I start in about 60 FOW and troll my Green Thingy (A Ray K term) out to 80 FOW to find em. I will certainly check the board to see how you did! Good luck!
  8. Nick, Yeah I saw you too...I read your guys' report...That Walleye had to be a blast to reel in! I'm going to have to pick my days for fishing by wind direction until I get my 21 footer fixed but it is still a blast getting out there! Keep the Lines Tight! -Jason
  9. http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/combos.htm Here's a good example. Anything Green/Blue works Good for lakers. Get them right off the bottom and they push the water around as they spin about a 2 ft diameter...First Time I used one a couple years ago, I was amazed at how many more fish I caught. I'm still not up to the numbers Ray K. is hitting, but I can pull limits consistantly.
  10. I geared up my Father-in-laws Rowboat for trolling as my 21 ftr is out of commission until I throw a new engine in it. A couple guys from work were supposed to meet me at 5:00 in Waterloo! So I started making the calls to voicemails around 5:30...Most of you know the drill! Well at 9:30 Mike Shaw of Kaplan-Shaw.com (A great Blues Musician...terrible fishin buddy!) helped me launch the boat out of the Coast Guard station at Sodus Point. We trolled the mouth of Maxwell banking toward the mouth at a 45 Deg and out again (I don't know the Temp/Depth as my Fish-finder wasn't working because I wired the fuse-box backwards...oops ). We were trolling 2.2 MPH and all hook-ups came going into the mud-line. We went 2/4...the two came off a blue/green Alpeena Diamond off the rigger set 3 ft down and about 50 ft back. We hooked up twice off the planers to have 1 shaker and 1 line-snap. I must say it was great getting on the water. Saturday was awesome conditions!
  11. Thanks for posting! I'm going to try and make it up there Saturday AM for the shakedown cruise.
  12. If you launch at Roys, try the first cove south. The north end of that cove is usually pretty good for perch. The East side is pretty good about a 1/4 mile North of Sampson for BIG Perch. Just line yourself up with the rest of the boats out there. Good luck...can't wiat to see the report!
  13. Awesome tips...thanks guys. Now I just need to get the shakedown cruise under way to try them out!
  14. Does anybody have a good CRISPY recipe? I used the standard one from my wife's good housekeeping cookbook and it came out soggy (the breading soaked up the grease). Tasted ok but I would like to find a recipe where you get that light crispy breading.
  15. Awesome!! I'm jealous...hopefully I will be ready by this weekend. Thanks for the report!
  16. I need a remanufactured 4.3 with a 2 piece rear main seal. Mine crapped out last summer. If I hadn't bought the Cannon S-n-T, Lawrance 522c-df, new sound system, maybe I could afford it....but priorities right? My father in law has a 14 ft aluminum with a Honda 25 hp 4-stroke so I will probably put my old fish-finder on it along with a couple Cannon manual downriggers. I will try and hit the early brown fishing off sodus, and do some lake trout fishing on Seneca and Cayuga.....but I think salmon fishing is out for me this year....times are tight.
  17. Went out for the first time Saturday since I was about 4 yrs old. Went out with Philly, Jeremy CeCe and his brother Jason off of Connelly's Rest. We walked straight out between the two Islands and found a mixture of small to Medium sized Perch. We did spot a blue gill and a bass on the Fish Cam. 1 Tip-up got hit with nobody home. It was as cold as I remember 30 yrs ago!
  18. You guys are outta control!!! I must have just missed ya! I drove up 414 on the way home from North Carolina Sat. at about 3:30 Looked like some nice rollers out of the north...would have been nice at my end! My boat still has a hole in the transom. I hope to get an engine in it by the Trout derby! Way to hit the lake first in '09!
  19. I bought the Outback when it first came out and LOVE IT! It's amazing how mathews seems to put more engineering into their bows year after year. I'm sure the thinner DXT is much lighter. I will say that mine is not as quiet as my buddy's Hoyt. I'm shooting a pretty heavy arrow though also (Easton Full Metal Jackets)...I just love the sound they make when they hit a deer! 31 1/2 Draw! I would hate to have to get in a boxing match! You can probably reach the beer in the fridge from the recliner too!
  20. Sorry Brett....Gotta do this What Brett forgot to mention was that when the Rod fired he had the wrong pole in his hand. You can see in this first pic the blue jug at the corner of the boat.....Geesh man....couldn't you hold it just a little longer!? Had a great time out there with Brett. This is my 2nd year fishing the Big Lake, my first time out of Hughes, and my biggest fish so far. Can't wait to get back out.
  21. How's everyone doin? The Motor in my boat started knocking coming home from the fireworks on Seneca last week so it looks like I have to sit these summer Derbys out. Gotta rebuild a Chevy 4.3 Hopefully she'll be ready for the fall LOC
  22. Glad to see another newbie doing well on the big pond! I've been watching your posts on Seneca (I fish the north end). I just started fishing Lake O last year myself. At least that Fish didn't HIT the snoopy pole! I bet your son was pretty stoked when you pulled that fish in the boat!
  23. My motor started knocking Thursday night coming home from the Fireworks on Seneca so to keep from getting depressed, I hopped on my buddy's boat Sat. AM. Fished straight across the lake to the East. We marked a lot of suspended fish but no takers. Saved a skunk with a small brown right in front of the Aurora Inn.
  24. I just started fishing the Big Lake last year out of Sodus. It has seemed pretty slow over there so far this year so I was thinking of trying Fair Haven Friday Am. Any starting points? I am thinking of launching at the state park unless any one has better suggestions? Should I go east or west from there? Waypoints are always appreciated too! (I know, I don't ask for much!)
  25. I set up some Wire divers this year and had the same problem. A friend sugggested this drag technique and I haven't had a problem since. I set the reel on "click" so I can listen to the speed while putting out the rest of my equipment.
