Tim, you know I have both wire and braid. I don't think the physical characteristics between the two have anything to do with the "hit and runs". Usually, people are running braid up higher in the water where smaller fish with smaller mouths reside......ie more likely to have a hook tear out......more likely to nip at a bait then engulf it.

Anyone have experience with a good rail-mount rod holder that doesn't slip on the rail when using dipsys? My tite-locks have to be adjusted often, and if I tighten them anymore I am afraid of breaking the set screw.

The cheater slides down the line to the main line lure, thus extending behind it. With a fish on the main line, the cheater just drags behind. If you get a fish on the cheater, you are reeling up the fish til the main lure is near the rod tip. The main line lure acts as a STOP to the cheater line.

Next question Miss em. I painted a shark to look like a fish like you....got a lot of streaks to look at it, but my hook ups suffered. Tried all different lead lengths....could not buy a fish. Painted it black again. Now this was on the big 20 lb shark. I have pancakes that I painted to look like a fish, and have excellent results., perhaps from the rear, a pancake disappears so the fish can re-focus on the bait? What has your experience been with your fish weight?

If you are fishing lake Erie tribs, there is a hatch of a large Hex Mayfly that occurs in Michigan waters. In the early summer the husks are all over the top of the water out in the lake. Over lake St. Claire some of the clouds of these flys are unreal as they come ashore. There are large light brown nymphs that mimic these bugs....mostly known as a Michigan Wiggler.

The problem with the wire knot used in this manner is the wire is too thick/stiff to cinch down and stay cinched down at the back overhand knot IMO. I would add a few crimps to keep the knot from slipping.....but I ain't going to risk my probe to try it! IF someone uses this knot please post your results, because it would provide the least drag of any termination......and the cheapest.

Say bye bye to probe and weight if you use the "wire line knot". My guess it would break at the second wave you go over. Use the klincher connection.....I believe Moor Electronics sells the releases without the rivot you have to remove. You can also use a cannon termination system, just strip the insulation off the end so it sticks out enough to wrap around the terminal swivel eye. As long as there is metal to metal connection to the eye you are good (I use this method).

You will find the fishing is a lot easier than what you are use to seeing in Oswego. Be prepared with your spoon and flasher/fly programs. You can catch fish from the surface down 150' on the bottom at that time of year.

Launch out of Lewiston and stay downstream of the launch.......plenty of good drifts downstream with safer water. Don't go upriver until you have been with an experienced guide or angler.

The key to the ez-steer is to take the measurements required and order the correct size for the size of the engine you will be running. Go to their website or call customer service. You should never have the rod come apart unless you rigged up the wrong size bar.

While on the subject of kicker motor set-up....I have had the same two deep-cycle batteries that I bought new when I purchased my boat five seasons ago. I have no onboard charger other than the I/O alternator. Just now the batteries are showing signs of demise....so five years is good right? Start up has never been a problem in the past, but now I will be adding an electric downrigger so I am thinking I will need to use my kicker to help charge the batteries. What type of arrangement is involved with bringing power from the four-stroke kicker to the batteries. I have a Perko switch (I will be getting new batteries this year).

With that much money at stake.......people will go out on the water and prefish. Can't enforce it Jason. You also have charters running during the week. We do not live in a perfect world......but this tournament with no communication is a step in the right direction. Going to be interesting seeing some of the big boats having to run six rod spreads like us amateurs.......even if Kings are the only target.

Does Sodus Bay suffer from industrial contamination like most of the other bays along Lake Ontario? Was wondering if the perch/pike/ etc. are safe to eat.
