Not to split hairs but that shot is more broadside than quartering. I would have felt comfortable shooting any style of mechanical in that situation and yes it has been warm enough to hear crickets
With that arrow placement you could have killed it with a field point. Show me a quartering shot result. Chances are you can’t because you would not have found the deer. Very lethal broadhead at broadside shots only.
The law was poorly written and is in the process of being tweaked. As such, law enforcement is not taking a heavy hand on enforcement in recognition of many of the law’s flaws.
Nice buck! Crazy what is happening right now. My buddy has a nighttime trail cam picture of a buck breeding a doe. The pattern is typical for this time of year. Bucks cruise all night and bed as light appears. Then late morning they get up and take a cruise.
No deer recovery unfortunately. Very little blood. 1/4 mile track job that spanned four properties ended in only the hope the deer survives. With eight inches of arrow missing plus four inches of front quarter thickness means 12” of penetration. The arrow cartwheeled out when the deer bolted from the front leg shearing off the arrow. Arrow in the crease 1/3 the way up from the brisket. Should have been lethal but must have found some dead space between the top of the heart and the lungs. My brother is pretty bummed.
Positive thoughts needed. My brother thinks he shot the buck of his lifetime. Broadside with 8” of arrow with fixed blade inside. No exit wound so leaving it overnight. Heading out in the morning to start tracking
Yep, not even trying until it gets cool. I am starting to see doe kills along the road so they are starting to bump. I came across a fresh scrape pheasant hunting Friday but that is the only sign I have seen.
It would appear bucks are on their lazy bachelor group pattern of staying out all night and getting up late. I have been seeing bucks feeding along the road at 10 am
My German Shorthair now retired, I am down to my rescue dog. Noodles the wonder dog did awesome. Despite the mixing of probable pit bull and rat terrier?? mixed in ( who the hell knows), she pointed and set my two birds plus serviced the other two in our group for a quick limit before the rain came. No shortage of hunters, wow!
OMG, I have been targeting that same piebald fawn. I love vanilla tasting deer. Let’s compare notes. Where are you seeing that deer? Thanks in advance.
