  1. Not sure what to make of this but thought you would be interested to know. Btw the water levels listed on the nyscanals site are still a few days outdated. ALERT LOCK CLOSURE CAYUGA-SENECA CANAL LOCK C/S-1 Cayuga-Seneca Canal lock C/S-1 at Mud Lock is closed due to high water levels and flows from heavy rainfall until further notice. For updates and information monitor 1-800-4CANAL4 and www.canals.ny.gov. Updated Thursday 09/08 at 12:39 PM
  2. thaaanks Joe! I'd say I'll let the voters decide what I do, but if I open my mouth like that you know I'll end up working.
  3. Chad, mike asked me the same thing this AM... all I know right now is that I'm fishing somewhere at some point Originally I thought it would be conesus, but there's an increasing chance I will make it down for the tourney. If I do though, it will be Friday night before I get down there.
  4. Hbird sells the mounting bracket kit. You will need one to fine tune the angle so that it shoots exactly strait down. Otherwise it's likely to shoot at an angle, giving you inaccurate depth readings (further off the deeper the water) and your fish arches etc will just be angled lines. You will be happier in the long run with the bracket.
  5. Nice! Wish I could've gone...I will be out there next weekend for sure...finally! Hope the fish cooperate as well for me as they did for you guys!
  6. They do for you, and they have to do for all. Not a door they want to step through when there is a known issue. Sad, but that's business these days...make the quarterly numbers for wall street, sacrifice the customer base, reputation and long term viability of the company. Sorry you had a bad experience, hope the change of cowl colors serves you well
  7. Now that sounds like a heart stopper! The kind of action you hope for as a musky fisher. Well done
  8. You will find that Verizon has by far the best coverage in upstate ny, AT&T is ok in the metros, but spotty in rural areas. Not even the iPhone release a few years ago could pry me from the Verizon network. My wife wanted the iPhone and there have been plenty of times since then I had coverage and she didn't, only very rarely has the reverse been true
  9. It's alright ray, the chair just fell over...no damage sustained. Whew, that could have been a lot worse!
  10. Is it your motor mounted oil res that's 2/3 full or the auxiliary. Im not sure what motor you have or much about that old a motor, but on the newer mercs, the motor mounted tank should be completely full or it will beep. You have to remove the cap while it's running in order to purge the air.
  11. DFI is the type of motor that all optimaxs are classified as (vs EFI or carb etc). It does refer to direct fuel injection. No intake manifold, both fuel (and air) are injected directly into each cylinder, so no you will not find a carbed opti. Can't say for sure why they would change the name, but I seem to recall that in the first year of this motor ('97 I think?) it was called simply 'DFI'. Second year they started calling it the Optimax. The DFI terminology was probably too new and confusing back then but today with a few mfgrs having dfi motors it likely made sense to brand it as a dfi.
  12. thanks man..I will definitely look you up in the spring... didn't make it it down this year with the flooding and all but will be back april may time frame. good to hear theres some size coming out of there now [ Post made via Windows Smartphone ]
  13. So what am I getting for that $$, aside from. Penn reel?? Awfully expensive for beer specials
  14. What length(s) were the rods you had the problem with?
  15. +1 online filters and stabil (blue!). Good advice. Keep in mind some motors have an online filter already on the motor and are not recommended to have an additional inline filter installed due to the restriction it places on fuel flow. Be sure to check regarding your particular motor before installing. My optimax has a large screw on water separating filter under the cowl (looks like an oil filter) and additional filters are recommended against on these motors.
  16. I wouldn't troll a 250 either but with a 115 you should be fine. If you don't want to get a kicker then this is a good all around choice IMHO. My boat wont take a kicker and I troll my 135 opti and have had no problems. I always run quickleen and blue stabil in mine as well as usually opening it up above 3k on the way back to the ramp. No fouling issues to date after a few hundred hours trolling (supposed to replace the plugs at 100 hrs anyway). Merc has come a long way in refining the opti fuel curve timing, idle temp etc to prevent fouling on the newer year models. Yes it will be somewhat loud as it is a 2 stroke with an air compressor, but not unbearable by any means, though the 2 stroke exhaust can get nauseating at times trolling downwind. Gas milage should be good trolling, around 1/3 gph unless you are trolling 3-5 mph for muskies like I do. and yes the opti will have a lot more torque than a comparable 4 stroke.
  17. Just a word of caution...Magic eraser can leave a swirl mark especially if you have to really scrub with it.. Not a big deal in some cases, but on new/polished 'glass I would try some goo gone first. Takes some marks off effortlessly, depending on what they are.
  18. +1. made for gas containing ethanol [ Post made via Windows Smartphone ]
  19. I've heard of people that will use it in their car....mix in a gallon or so at each fill up. Cars can handle the water better than boat motors, or so I've read. But 100 gallons, that a lot. It should separate out (water on bottom) so if you put it in a couple drums that have a valve on bottom, it would allow you to drain out the bulk of the water. Could then make it a couple gallons per fill. Still wouldn't put it in the boat tho...
  20. Hmm that's a new theory I hadn't heard, Tom...add it to the list!
