  1. I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion. Sent from my SM-G930V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. How close do I need to get it to make it worth your while?
  3. Pappy- the boat is in the Lake Winnipesaukee area of central NH. I would be happy to meet someone halfway like in Albany or something to view the boat and take a test ride if they were seriously interested. -Eric
  4. Selling my father's boat Unfortunately, my father passed away last fall and I need to unload his boat. We used to go up to Oswego the week before Labor Day for the past 15 years. He always looked forward to it. I don't have time to use or maintain the boat right now and would like to see it go to someone who will use it. Here is the listing on Craigslist: https://nh.craigslist.org/boa/6243144240.html I would be willing to work with someone to meet that part way or to work with getting the boat inspected. It's a solid boat and setup for the Big O. If you are interested, let me know. Thanks, -Eric T
  5. You may laugh, but our best luck is running the fly 18" from the flasher and then running the flasher 3-5 feet from the ball. We used to run them 10-15 ft off the ball, but our numbers doubled after we put them in tight Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Come in from northern NH- 7-8 hour drive.... Longest travel time was from Stockholm Sweden..... Left there at 11am Stockholm time- landed in boston at 5pm. Headed to my father's house and loaded up my stuff- hit the road at 10pm. We were on that water at 6am the following morning. I was dragging that day to say the least.
  7. My father and I had 3 rods going at the same time with 2 of us on the boat.... Then had a fourth fire after got fish #2 in the boat. Went 4 for 4- but my arms were killing me. I wish I had video of that night- it would of been a riot.....
  8. LJ, Next time you are at Wright's... Look for the Crazy **** and talk to Tom.... He'll tell you where to find them. He is the nicest guy in the world and will let you know where to get them.
  9. it's an atomik fly. We bought out larry's... but woody's had a bunch.... It's a new pattern this year. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. LJ, Head out to front door and then west... We got a 34lb king last week right out front and a 31lb king heading far west. The only trip we got skunked on the whole week last week was heading east towards the nuke plant... Definitely tailed off towards the end of the week with the wind shift... But keep your head up- the 30+ lber's are out there. We got our 34lb'er on thursday and our friends got the LOC #1 fish - 35lb 15oz friday morning.... All I have to say is find the fly called "The Sheep". It did all our damage.....and 122ft was the magic number for us
  11. Billy, I was out on the big O out of Oswego the last week of August after snapping my femur in a hockey accident in June a couple of years ago. I got released from the rehab hospital the middle of July after getting injured in June. (2 surgeries to rebuild my knee and put a nail in the center of my femur) It was about 2 months after my injury- I still had the brace on my leg and couldn't walk without crutches. I just stood on one leg and wedged my bad leg/hip into the back corner of the boat and reeled away... Landed my first 30lb+ king that trip. So it can be done... Vicodin and celebrex will make you feel like a champ. -Eric.. Everyone still laughs at the pic of me holding the fish in front of the boat with my crutches in the background.
  12. 8-12 feet max... We limited out on kings 4 out of 7 days last year that we were up on the big O. Most of them were on the dipsy- but the riggers usually we set them pretty short to the ball.
  13. Just Ducky, I setup the wire with no backing right to the spool. I use 30# http://cgi.ebay.com/MALIN-7-STRAND-30-1 ... 230828fc03 The 1000' helps out on the bigger fish- heavy as hell though. But with the dipsies- we are running 250' to 350' out from the boat... Change out your rod tip... the twilly tips available at most of the shops on the lake. The wire will cut through the guide on the tip of the rod in 100'.
  14. Oh man.... I really need to change out the 20lb test on my rigger rods.... I snapped off 2 fish last year. Time to go to 30-40lb test - damn...
  15. On my trip up last year to Oswego, we were talking to a couple of guys on the dock. A couple of retired guys getting away for a week of fishing. We were coming in every night with 3-4 fish and they were getting blanked. Hell- I went and pulled my rigged rod of our boat - showed them our setup. I even took their flies- re-tied them with shorter leaders and setup different paddle colors. They went with us on a trip to Fat Nancy's. We set them up with what we were using. They followed us out that night and mirrored our trolling patterns. They got into 3 fish that night after 4 days of being skunked. And what goes around, comes around. I bumped into one of the guys up in Pittsburg NH this spring. He hooked me up with a fly pattern and spot that was working for land locked salmon in one of the smaller - harder to get to spots. My buddy bagged 4 nice salmon. I didn't land anything, but had 6-7 hookups. I was having equipment issues and a pulled muscle in my right arm- so fly fishing was probably not the best idea... But I will say, most of the guys are pretty helpful out on Ontario. You have the handful that aren't, but the majority are good guys. We had a fire on the boat a couple of years ago. Before we were done dousing the back of the boat with the extinguishers, we had one guy hooked up to our bow and ready to tow us back in and another group of guys off the back with extinguishers and life jackets in hand if we had to jump. They saw the smoke and just reacted. And I am grateful for that. So don't let one SOB at a sporting goods store make you think that fisherman aren't a good group of guys....
  16. Don't forget- you have to add the "-Eh" sticker to the end of your boat name...
  17. Um.... Nice on the out of state comment- I'll have to remember that when I fork over $75 for my license this year. I personally think the 2 rod rule is fine. On the O last year- we had a quad hookup with only 2 of us on the boat- 3 kings and a coho. Made for a fun half hour. All 4 made it on the boat, but I don't know what fishing 6 rods would do for us. I don't mind fishing 6 rods when we have 2 of us working the back of the boat- but with just one guy back there running stacking rigs on the riggers and having steel out- it gets pretty crowded pretty quick. But again- I don't have a problem if guys want to run 3 rods per guy on a boat and can handle the chaos - then have fun. In NH- the fish/game commission is throwing the idea around of 2 rods per boat (not per guy) to cut back on the catch on the lakes here- the salmon are getting smaller and smaller and the stocked ones are getting injured from hookups and stunting their growth. -E
  18. I don't live in NY, but I go to Oswego every year the week before Labor Day with my father every year. I look forward to that trip every year and have a blast bagging 30lb kings. We go up with a series of several other boats from NH. I have forwarded all this information to them to also have them followup with state senators to inform them of the impact of this to tourism. Between the 10 boats that go up- 3 guys per boat- figure average of $1000 a guy for the 7-10 days up there... There is $30k in lost revenue from just one group and 1 port at 1 week... If they do this- I don't think they are thinking about the impact to sport fishing in the area at all.... Well - one good thing- if they sharpen the blades and put them close to the waterline, when the asian carp make it to ontario- they can control the population with the one's that jump out of the water...
  19. The okuma magda's and convectors are hands down 10x better than the Cabela's reels. We have swapped most of our stuff to okuma- magda's on the downriggers and convectors on the steel rods. We started off with the Cabela's trolling reels (still have 2 of them on the downrigger rods), but we had a bad week. Blew out the drag on one with a king on. That was a feet for the old man to bring in a king with no drag. The others have had various problems with the line counters and randomly free spooling. The okuma's have never failed. The convector pulled in 800' of steel and a 30lb king with no problem. The magda's are a nice quality and very smooth. Head to head- I would get the okuma's....
  20. Dave- nice fish... way to break the bubble... You wait- you want a fire fight- wait until you have 3 fire off and only 2 guys on the boat. Had that happen outside Oswego 2 weeks ago to my father and I... Made for an interesting night... Got all 3 in the boat and had the 4th rod fire just as I was getting the hook out of the last fish... Snubbers on wire- most definitely- right behind the dipsy in front of your leader (recommend the 8-9" ones). I had 2 hits this year that were so hard they snapped the leader (50lb flouro..) even with the snubber on there. We destroyed 2 snubbers on our annual trip to Oswego this year- but we got both fish in. The other thing - have someone show you the rubber band trick for wire. You loop the elastic around the wire and then hook the other part of the elastic around your reel handle. Then turn your drag down so it is almost free spooling. When a big one hits- it snaps the elastic band and then allows the fish to run (nothing better than hearing the drag on an Okuma screaming). Lose a lot less gear and fish that way. It gives you a chance at getting the rod out of the holder too. One of our bud's showed us that trick one time and we have had a lot less misses on the wire since. -Eric
  21. No matter what the rod is- change out the eyelet on the tip with a swizzle tip. It's a spring in a plastic housing that you glue to the tip. The wire will cut right through a standard eyelet on the tip in 100 feet. I use a penn power rod 8' 6" medium flex with a okuma convector with 1000' of mason 7 strand stainless... Works beautifully with a size 1 disk on Lake O. There is a guy on ebay up in Michigan that has the mason stainless braided wire are really good prices. He also carries the okuma's at discount- look him up.
