The pond to be on is the northern one.The Southern one -Devils bathtub- is not properly frozen over. The good places for pike are on the west side just south of the center shelter where the shore curves back westward. There are lots of pike but none of them are very large.

Your point is well taken and the question has been asked by many.About 3 yeas ago In-fisherman magazine decided to run a series of tests using bass to see if there is any truth to the red hook and line reputation. The test results showed that red hooks did not produce better or worse catch rates in most given situations.The red color was the first in the spectrum to change to black as it was lowered in clear water.In cored water it did disappear(blend in with its environment) at shallower depths than other colors.Here is a more recent article . http://www.in-fisherman.com/2011GearGuideBonus

Red does kind of "disappear",it does not magically become invisible,it turns black.

The Fishhawk triducer uses a 70KHZ frequency. I have the fishhawk triducer about 2 feet away from my humminbird triducer which uses 50, 83 and 200, and never have any interference. If you have not yet done so,you should change your regular spark plugs with plugs that have a resistor inside.That usually puts an end to all electronic interference

Trying to compare apples to oranges is tricky. If space is your problem,then you can always use the same rod and change the reels out.That way,although not perfect,you can have your cake and eat it too. The good part of copper compared to leadcore is the amount of line that you can spool onto your reel.This allows you to go deeper and it will alow the salmon to make a longer run without getting spooled. What I like about leadcore is the color code system and the way it runs from the side riggers. No matter what you choose,you will always miss the one that you did not bring.

In Lake Michigan there have been a few tests with radio tagged salmon and it turned out that salmon sometimes go from 40 or 50 foot to 450 foot down and then come up again within 2 minutes or less.It seems that the air bladder adjusts itself very quickly.

I bought a Fish Hawk X4 last spring and it does everything it is supposed to do,but when I observed on the Spoonfed last spring Captain Glen used a sub troll with better results than I managed with my Fish Hawk. I guess that the probe is just another tool in your chest,but the experience and the skills of the user is what makes this tool great or just so-so. If you can, catch a ride with the owner of one of these probes and find out which one is good for you. Whichever one you find under the tree,use it in good health and be grateful for being able to be out on the lake. May you have good health, good hunting and sweet winter dreams about next season's fishing.

On the Penn Yan side,near the YMCA and on the northern end you will find very many.Go to about 15 to 20 feet and find solitary weed growth.They are there,not often fished for and big. If you prefer the north-western arm, there are plenty of them along the reef.

As for leadcore, I used to run leadcore with about 8 feet long fluorocarbon leaders,but this summer I changed from fluorocarbon to powerpro braid and instead of 8 foot I went to 60 foot.This presentation gives even more stealth and the results have been very good.I doubled my Coho and steelhead catches on the leadcore. Browns will probably go the same next spring One word of caution though. Neither leadcore nor fluorocarbon or for that matter power braid has any stretch whatsoever.This means that you must work with a very light slip or the first good sized fish will break off with all your gear.

I am asking this mostly because whenever I buy gas in Massachusetts for my boat, I can get the taxes back because this gas is not being used on any roads in MA. Is there a similar system in NY or is there no such thing in NY? Thanks.

If you properly winterize you should never have to rebuild a carb.I usually run seafoam in the fuel every third tank and when it is time to winterize I disconnect the fuel lines and drain them,then drain the carburetor fuel bowls and clean them.Replace fuel filters.Then remove the spark plugs and spray seafoam deep creep into the carb throat while turning the engine with the starter. Next I spray seafoam deep creep through the spark plug holes into the cylinders and turn them over by hand.Now put the plugs back in and your engine and carburetor are ready for winter and next year. This has worked for me the past 12 years without ever having to rebuild a carb.

There was a blurb in the DNC this morning about a guy being arrested for shooting across the road from his tree stand into a corn field ,missing his deer and wounding a man about a thousand feet away.

I know of 2 tiger muskies in Owasco lake.Tigers were introduced there in the late 1980s. Just south of Casowasco their is a stretch of undisturbed shoreline and a bit south of Ensenore there is another stretch.While kayaking there I have often seen two monster muskies lazing around.They must be some of the last tigers that were stocked. They are beautiful creatures and they are the kings of the weedbeds under the western slope. They are in the 50 inch range and probably well over 30 years old. I have had them follow hooked up lake trout and bass close up to the kayak,but they never did strike. Truth be told,it is a bit scary to be in a kayak and seeing a close to 5 foot fish that is obviously not scared of the kayak or anything else for that matter.
