Most newer 2 stroke outboards have systems where you no longer have to premix your fuel.That means that you can also hook the 2 strokes in your main fuel system. This opens the door for a lot more choices you can make. It also means that you don't have to deal with a very heavy 4 stroke outboard.

I sometimes wonder just how many hunters take a pint of booze along to "stay warm" and how many of these "accidents" are caused by alcohol,hunter's anxiety and just plain boredom.

The Chrysler outboards were great.When Mercury bought Bayliner and force as a package they treated the Force outboards as an unwanted stepchild.For a while they tried to sell them as an economy priced mercury.A lot of technology that was not good enough for mercury engines ended up in the Force units and it was downhill from there. The late eighties and very early nineties Force engines are fine,beyond that...... Just think of the 5 cylinder 150 horse Force with the broken crank shafts and the frisbie flywheels.

So I couldn't wait till next year and in an early attack of cabin fever I bid on and won a pair of Cannon Mag15 downriggers. They come without the swivel bases. I understand that the swivel bases are universal,at least for cannon,but then again,it seems that the mounting bases are sometimes different.I read about low and high and before buying these parts I would really like to know exactly what mounting base goes with the Mag15. I have "owned" an M16 and a .50 Browning and yes I did some "hunting" with it,but I never felt very strongly about gun ownership as such. My feeling is that gun producers created groups like the NRA and use them to sell more guns. Their objective is profit and like any other big interest lobby they are more than happy to spread fear in order to increase their profit. The best way to protect your freedom and your first and second amendment rights is to sign up for the armed forces as a grunt and use that gun against people that shoot back at you. Oh ,in case you wondered,people with flat feet are accepted. As for becoming a member of a group that is not so fanatical,I suggest a club that is called "Veterans Of Foreign Wars" ,they have chapters all over.They are usually gun owners and most of them are not afraid that the government will take their guns away.

What about the bait store in Moravia? In Scipio Center there usually are a couple of kids who sell fat heads and worms.Just check the local Penny Saver.

I have seen them used a lot for fishing and diving in the Red Sea near the Sinai coast. They were mostly used on one day trips and while running great,they did remind me a bit of trihulls when for whatever reason they were trolling and taking waves broadside.

Wow ,that must have really upset you. I will check Craigs list and Ebay to see if any of that stuff shows up. I do not know if it helps,but I have engraved "property of NYS" on most of my more valuable gear.At least it will be a bit harder for these bottom feeders to sell it to pawn shops.

From 7.30 until about 9.30 there was a slow but steady bite of browns in the 3 to 6 pound range.After 9.30 it dried up and we hopped to the gas station for some coffee. Then we went into the bay to try for some pike but all we caught was perch and sunfish. Last but not least,we found out that not all the DEC people have been laid off.Around 11.30 a DEC boat showed up to check licenses and life jackets. I asked them what they thought about their boss getting fired and as expected,they had no comment. On quiet days like this, it is great to out on the lake. ====================

YUP Time to send a message. I been trying for years. Sent one from Mass. a couple months ago I'm proud to say. Amazed but proud. Glen I was in Hubbardston,Ma., just north of Worcester, this weekend. We hauled our 35 footer from Gloucester up to the farm and winterized her. Most of my friends there are ex hippies who escaped from Boston,but they mostly like your guy.They say that he is easy to talk to. As for Paladino, well, he's just a little bit special.

Allow me to refresh your memory. I claim "the heated and cooling" part. The "No matter how well sealed" part was added by Trap Jaw in his contribution to that thread.

Your lost gas went out of the cap. When the plastic tanks sit in the sun the fuel inside heats up enough to create extra pressure that causes your tank to swell up like a balloon.Up to a point where the plastic can stretch no more unless it is heated. But the pressure in the tank still increases.Then the safety design of these plastic tanks takes over and allows the over pressure to escape along the side of the cap. At night when the tank cools of again ,it will go back to its original size ,it may even shrink a bit,but not much.Unless you put it in the freezer there will be no air entering the tank. That is why there is less fuel ,but no water. Try the same experiment with the cap just very loose on the can and you will see water in the fuel.

The problem of ethanol in the fuel for a 2 stroke is really minuscule. You will find that your fuel consumption goes up a bit because ethanol in a regular engine has only about 66% of the energy that pure gasoline has. As long as all your fuel lines are alcohol resistant you will be fine. Believe it or not, but the Obama administration would would like to get rid of ethanol,just like the Bush administration had a dislike for ethanol. But the most powerful lobby in Washington is the farmers lobby and they are very deeply entrenched in the department of agriculture. The farmers and their representation in Washington are the responsible party. Farmers get subsidized for growing corn and for every gallon of Ethanol produced,the subsidy is fifty cents (our tax money). The amount of energy used to produce a gallon of ethanol is more than the amount of energy in a gallon of gasoline, so their is a negative energy balance. You can go vote for or against democrats or republicans,but both will shove more ethanol into your fuel tank.

I have always bought Penn gear for just everything in my boat and naturally this includes manual downriggers with swivel bases. Fishing mostly by myself,I find it quite hard to go in a straight line while being away from the steering wheel in order to lower or lift the down riggers.After having seen on Pike Hunter's rig how easily electric downriggers operate I have decided that I really want the same for my boat. Does any of you good people have experience with Penn electric riggers and how do they stack up compared to the other stuff on the market? I use 13 pound A-Tom-Mik torpedoes for weights Any answer and advice is highly appreciated. Thank you,Cornelis.

Tom all of what you say makes sense and is generally accepted,but it does not take a lot of other things in consideration. Let's start with the guys who like to make their own weights. They heat up the lead and pour it in shapes and forms often inhaling the fumes. Most people do this outside but some people do it in the kitchen on the gas range......... The journey that lead sinkers make from the mine to the store takes it through stores where it is kept in small plastic bags which are often fingered by children.Then when you take your little kids fishing,they will handle that lead while it is wet. I remember my oldest son play with the little lead ball sinkers and stick one in his nose where it got stuck.We had to take him to the emergency room to have it removed from his nose. We like to take our kids out in nature and teach them how to fish,while at the same time we expose them to lead far more then we would at home. There are many alternatives to lead which deserve consideration.

This says it all.It is not about dangerous or poisonous.It is about the money big business makes selling lead products. There are quite a few lead mines in Arizona. Are you willing to defend and help the companies that are poisoning the world around you just because it has been done that way for a long long time?.

The asbestos industry lobby fought for years to keep using asbestos and they claimed that it did not cause any sickness. They knew that it causes cancer,but it made them a lot of money. I think that everybody knows about the tobacco industry and the way they claimed that tobacco is harmless while their own scientists already knew about the dangers of smoking. Tobacco made them a lot of money. Now the lead industry is using the exact same strategy that the asbestos and tobacco industry used before. They have armies of lobbyists and lawyers and hundreds of millions in dollars to convince lead users that there is nothing wrong with lead. Their desire for profit is a lot stronger than their conscience.

I jigged and trolled around Ensenora point these last few days.(Its just a few hundred yards south of my cottage). Going down the road from Scipio Center to the lake you will find a fair but not great launch site on the south side of the point. The down currents from the south are good and the fish are stacked. More browns than lakers on the north side and the lakers are closer to the hole and the south side.
