  1. Figured it would be a little to bouncy for my 16fter so I stayed home this morning. How bumpy is it?
  2. Not in the derby, probably would be sitting on top. Fish read 13.7 on my digital scale which is usually a half pound under. I'm sure plenty of big chrome will be hitting the scales. I took one slightly smaller out of Wilson a few weeks back that would have held up for fourth in the summer loc. Guess I should learn.
  3. Couldn't really tell you. I'm pretty green on Lake O and fish from the Niagara to the Oak. Some of the other guys from that area might be able to chime in though.
  4. After a week of windy weather the lake finally settled down enough to get out and wet some lines. The pup was sitting in the car before I even stepped out the house so he was ready to go. Ran basically a steelhead program 450-500 and went 5/6 with three steelhead 6,13,14 lbs and two small kings 4 and 8 lbs. All spoons Blues, greens, pinks, oranges. Riggers at 40 and 55 with fixed sliders 10 feet up and mono dipsy out 145 all took fish in about three hours of fishing. Fleas weren't to bad at all compared to a couple weeks ago. Marked a good amount of bait and hooks down 90-110 and probably should have dropped a FF down but never did with the rods poppin'. Beautiful night on the lake.
  5. 27-29 line 4/5. Two giant steelhead and a teen king. Lake is mint.
  6. Anybody out? Lake is supposed to be laying down this afternoon. Temp still deep? Don't know if its worth trying inside for browns this evening.
  7. Without having a speed and temp unit ( hoping to purchase a sub troll in spring ) I know there's typically a good west to east current. When fishing deeper it seems I can mitigate this somewhat with north/south troll. However, when I fish for browns I usually stay with an east/west troll. Theoretically should I be trolling a little faster going into the current and slower going with? Or do I have this backwards? I know the speed and temp unit would take the guess work out but I have to save a little cash. Any feedback on sub troll or depth raider? Fish hawk is a little out of my price range.
  8. Light and variable is my favorite forecast. This week was a wash for me as well with a small boat. Two weeks left of summer vacation before I head back to work. Hoping for some nice weather the next couple weeks.
  9. Here's a stupid question. I roughly know here Wilson/Olcott are on the longitude map. But I'm having a difficult time determining where it is on the latitude maps along the top.
  10. So looking at the map this morning it appears the west end has pretty cold water up in the water column where the east end has warmer water fairly deep?
  11. I don't have a speed/temp unit but usually check out the NOAA map before heading to the lake. Any accuracy in these maps?
  12. For a $3500 boat just save up some cash. If you need a loan for that boat you might have some money issues when you start considering equipment, repairs, launching, etc. plus insurance if the bank owns it. Remember there's a lot of expense associated with the boat besides the loan. Money makes money, debt makes debt. I tell my wife all the time if I didn't fish I'd be a millionaire.
  13. Spoon feed em'... Stingers, superslims, NK's. I'm no expert either but if you can find bait in tight the browns wont be far away.
  14. Captain Larry, I was out of Barcelona solo. Couple waterspouts north towards brocton. One was huge. Looked like a smokestack. Saw a couple others as well plus a few that tried developing. They didn't forecast that! As for the fishing I boxed 4. Sounds better than most did. First time I fished west of sturgeon this year. I think I will stick to the east end. Tough bite. I found an active school in 75 fow just west of the harbor.
  15. Are we talking the 3 3/8" flutter spoons for steelhead?
  16. Last week off Wilson the fleas were nonexistent. This week they were awful. I was running 20 lb. big game on my rigger rods and 30 lb. power pro on dipsy rods. The power pro was really bad. 3 ft of fleas to pick off. The fleas weren't as bad in tight as they were out deeper. From what I have heard I should up the rigger rods to 30 lb. How about dipsy's? How would they run with the 30 lb. big game as well? I run braid since I mostly fish for walleye but was thinking spooling up another reel with 30 lb big game for a dipsy setup. I'm just concerned about the stretch. Also, will the fleas be around the rest of summer? Thanks.
