  1. Nice Rob! I think thats more fish than your old man has put in that boat , I'll be sure to let him know that tonight at work
  2. cool video, how did you stay so calm at the end lol. Nice LL also
  3. Awsome! Looks like a good time. One question though, did you yell "WAHOO" for the wahoo. I think thats manditory
  4. Come hell or high water we get out fishing lol. Its never a bad day out there. Hopefully your docks hold up ok with the rain this week. If you have an emergency situation where you need to take the boat out fishing you can get ahold of me. I got the old man hooked pretty good so i'm sure we will be out when we are able, but if not i'm always willing to get out. Anyluck on finding a new job?
  5. Thanks everyone! It was a great day, that is the biggest laker we have had in the boat. I had a great time sharing stories with Anthony and busting on my dad . It was a very productive trip that we all enjoyed. This sport is about having fun and we all had a great time out there. Ben
  6. The water was high, but the debris wasn't that bad. We stayed below 5mph the whole day with no wake. There was nothing at the launch saying it was closed, and there was just as many people out as in the past weekends.
  7. Awsome numbers and great fish!
  8. Had a great day today. We launched at long point and starting fishing @7:30. We had Anthony along with us to reel in the copper and wire lines . Right off the bat we hit a couple before we got all of our rods in. Then after everything was set rods started flying. We had fish on 5 out of six rods all at the same time. a 600 copper 3 wire rods and a rigger rod all with fish on behind the boat and no tangles . The morning was action packed and then it slowed down a little with the overcast but still steady. We had many double and a few triples. The spin doctor bite was good today, grease trap did some work also. we caught fish from 130-200+ ft of water down 80-110ft. White spin doctor with green dots and a BW green dot fly did well as well as the "Smilin' Wes" spinny. Our biggest laker was 12.5# and we had many over 8. We caught one salmon first thing. We did 27 for the day and lost quite a few on our first few passes. Awsome day! 12.5# er!!!! No this isn't a pre-schoolers art project its the Smilin' Wes (as named by Anthony today) Unfortunaty for me the oldmans artwork caught a majority of the fish today so i'll have to wait a few more weeks to get that thing out of the takle box lol good luck everyone! Ben
  9. I seem to remember me telling someone about this problem after he was swearing at the new (to him/us) boat for a few days . As stated by my old man (quality time) buy yourself a new fuel line and bulb. if its not that you will have an extra when that one gives out. It shouldn't be the starter spring. If that hits the flywheel it will drive it back down to the starter, not stall the engine. Also drain the carb and check for water in the gas. The ethanol will draw in water from condensation over the temp changes. Ben
  10. nice looking fish there. sounds like a good day.
  11. for taking the kids out! Hopefully you have better luck with your equipment this year, i remember you having bad luck last year with your probe and lower unit if i remember right. We haven't been after the browns yet, but have been having fun with the lakers. We should be out this weekend. We'll probably stick to the north side, but you can try us on 68 "Quality Time"
  12. longnose gar in cayuga i believe. aligator gar are those big nasty guys in the southwest that get huge. I didn't believe many stories about walleyes, but this year a guy at work had a few pictures of walleye that came out of fall creek. All the stories i hear are of big fish, so my guess is they are not reproducing well even though they seem to do well in the lake. I keep hearing that "Cayuga is loaded with walleye" I don't think this is true. Maybe fall creek is loaded in the spring, but for a lake that big theres not a lot to go around. Its really hard to say anything for sure. Its too bad the dec keeps getting budget cuts where they could look into a lot of these things. Also remember that rainbows and browns aren't native fish to ny. So they are here because of stocking programs in the past. I think the biggest factors in the last 20 years are the zebra mussels and the alewives that put a big hurt on the smelt population. I think if the smelt were doing better the rainbows would come back. I really don't know a lot about any of this, this is just my observation and what a little research has told me.
  13. just add some roller guides and you should be good to go!
  14. Another great day out of long point. We had a lot of action off spoons with the downriggers but couldn't hook up on them. We ran anywhere from 130-180 FOW down 90-120 most of the time. ran a dipsey up high around 60ft for a bit and caught our biggest laker 32" 11#2oz! put seven in the boat and fished from 7:30-2:00. Grease trap w/ peanut did well for us again as well as stick baits and spoons. Only one off a spinny/fly but we were running slow again. Again no great numbers but quality fish. Everything went back exept for a 4#er for the grill. Ran into stinger out there, otherwise only a couple other boats out all day. Ben
  15. This did start as an informative topic, and i don't think anyone should be offend by what chowder said. Basically he and others told everyone how to catch bigger fish when you run into the dinks. Also he informed you of the nys laws on cayuga. I have seen many fish and game laws violated on many different sites, if people don't know they should be informed even though it is everyones own responsibility to know the laws where they hunt/fish/trap. Heres where I stand on everything. This site will shorten your learning curve(as it has mine) and give you a lot of knowledge on how to catch these great fingerlakes fish. The wisdom of the people sharing this knowledge needs to be respected. We have a great fishery in our back yards. This site is full of great fishermen who want to see more people enjoying the sport, and thats why they post here. I try to help anyone i can to have a good time fishing, because fishing should be fun. But as much as the people want to see others having fun and catching fish they also see the need to preserve what we have. Take some fish home for dinner, have a great time on the water, and share it with someone else. Also know the laws, respect the fisheries, and save some for the next guy to troll by. Don't forget that once you get good at this game, fish that we throw back could be some one elses fish of a lifetime. Ben
  16. We tried running our 600' copper off the otters last weekend and our releases wouldn't hold. What are you guys running?
  17. lol, thats funny! My bad on the cheese to peanut butter cracker mix up lol. You can leave out your old mans sea sausage. Don't forget NO BANANAS! lol!
  18. We passsed you. The old man said thats probably stoutner, and i said no he has a green top. I guess i'm wrong lol. great quality fish up there. We had our radio off, otherwise i would have filled you in. sorry about that. we always have it on but we had some battery concerns on our first trip out. Good luck this year, and next time we will have the vhf on.
  19. I hope so, we had a ball. Are you hitting all the fingerlakes tourneys this year? We may have to bet a case of tootsie pops or cheese crackers to make it interesting, lol.
