  1. Copper itself is heavy and has a sink ratio of anywhere from 4 or 5 to 1 depending on the size/weight (32lb or 45lb) of it. 600 foot of 45lb copper reaches depths of approx 120 feet. 7 strand stainless is also referred to to 1 x 7 wire meaning 7 individual strands of wire are spun together to form one piece. This is most commonly used for fishing with divers (dipsy) etc. the advantage of this is the wire tends to cut through the water better and does not collect nearly as many fleas as braid does.
  2. Another short trip today. Start to finish - 4 hours. Had 3 people aboard today 2 of which have never seen Lake Ontario. Brian was a minister from Denver CO and has never been on a boat before . Goal was for Kings only. Worked waters from 100 - 220 due to early quitting time. Had some decent marks from 130 - 170 anywhere from 75-100 down. Had 51* down 95. Ran two meat rigs, 2 flasher / fly combos, and Mupped spoons. Never moved a rod for the first 3 hours. Switched over to cowbells and even tried lakers wth no takers. Went back to "my program" and made one more pass before calling it quits. Pulled the copper and Both dispy rods first. Then went to work on pulling riggers as we trolled in. Rigger one was in the boat and as I secured the hook the only rigger left hooks up. Ended with a teenage King. Fish hit UV green/Mountain Dew chip with green fly down 120 over 135 FOW. Great way to end the trip and they were thrilled as it was the biggest fish the minister has ever caught. Just wish we had more time and it was a major that Lake O is known for. Sometimes in not about the size.....
  3. Loosen the clutch knob so the spool can move slightly at the same time you pull out in the counter. Sometimes the teeth are "jammed" by the pressure
  4. Probe the deeper waters. Heard some solid reports outside of where you were today (250 +)
  5. Die hard, sea sick waddler, silver green, dirty white boy
  6. I agree. I never did get an "official" weight but it was just bouncing the 30 line on my boat I'm one of those guys that is conservative with my numbers without a "true scale".
  7. Had between 50-53* down 120 over 130 to 220
  8. ran a quick trip this morning before work. we left the dock at 530am and headed straight north. Set up in 120 FOW and just as the 2nd dipsy rod went in the first one out 340 White paddle/hammer fly started screaming. After a great fight and some LONG runs we netted a king that was just shy of 30lbs. 10 minutes later second dipsy fires out 315 pulling green board / green crinkle fly. As i swooped the net under him i knew it was going to be nice. in the boat it came and it was a beautiful Atlantic salmon. 2 in the box before 7am. we were happy. ended up taking another smaller king off 125 rigger over 170 before calling it quits. We had some good action despite a short window to fish in.
  9. Someone once told me to start with the "100 rule". So if your fishing 60' down you go 40' making it 100, 80' down would be 20' back. Etc. Again these are just ballparks as the conditions and the fishes mood will really decide what will work best
  10. Used it today for the first time. I liked it a lot. Used 300' weighted steel connected to SS wire to get same depth as 600 copper. It was smooth and nicer than a full 600 copper - IMO.
  11. Went out last night on my buddy's boat. He concentrated on the inside waters 80-140. We marked very few fish and all were on bottom (possibly lakers). And Zero bait. We had 73* on the surface and 42* down 18 - yes 18'. We ran a mix of meat, flies, spoons all throughout the water column. Never moved a rod. Heard there is some bait and more stable water offshore. Heading there tonight and will post results tomorrow
  12. Fair Haven last night had 73 on surface and 42* down 45 over 120 FOW
  13. Is the team list final for Saturday ? I will be working on the scoreboard this week
  14. Guys are having some decent fishing in the 140-220 Range. Flasher/flies and meat taking the lions share of the fish. Riggers down 100 divers out 310+ The full moon did make it a later bite. Key is to stay with the marks and work them different directions and speed until "they turn on". Many 20+ pounders taken.
  15. One of the best setups for Kings off spoons is a MUP rig. (Mag Up) which is a Mag spoon on a fixed slider about 10' above smaller spoon in same pattern. Like said above above if you're hitting smaller fish drop your riggers deeper as the smaller fish to seem to be in top portion of column with bigger fish deeper in colder water
  16. I was there a little late. Great job today and good luck tomorrow
  17. Honestly I was more dumbfounded but was taking place. By the time I saw him 1/2 mile away and he kept his course straight at me I thought for sure he would alter his course slightly. I was trolling at 2 mph and even altered my course by 50* to just get this far away
  18. Thats a "Habanero" it was an original "Die Hard" that Billy V added tape to and soon after that began being produced that way.
  19. All my fishing was west of the chute. I talked to quite of few guys yesterday and fishing remained constant in the 130-180 range. Riggers down 100, divers out 260-320 with Flies and Meat taking majority of the hits. I do know that fish were being caught West and all the way to the point East. Quite a few browns mixed in those waters as well around the 60-80 range.
  20. Fished from 6 - 1130am. Worked inside waters from 90-140 FOW. I had 49* down 90 over 110. Didn't mark much bait or fish but had decent action. Took 2 kings (21 and 23 lbs) both came on green glow spin dr - green fly on diver out 236 over 120. Took a 8lb brown on a die hard mupped rig off a 90 rigger over 110. Had two more rips on same green combo diver with the last breaking my leader. Slid out to deeper water 200' to look for bait but didn't find anything so I moved back in.
  21. Had this guy almost T Bone me. I was in 225' out of Fair Haven and was all by myself. I thought his keel was going to take out my 600 copper. The pics don't do it justice of how close he was. If you zoom in you get a better idea
  22. Results from today's weigh in. From Facebook.....
