  1. I fished the River solo this morning and although I only caught two fish they were beauties. 29" walleye and 18" smallmouth both hit trolled crankbaits. Had two others on that came unbuttoned. Unfortunately the walleye was bleeding and caught in deep water and I could not release her. Even tried running my aerator in the live well for an extended time but she remained belly up and could not be revived.
  2. Hit Butterfield Lake early this morning trying to catch a surface bite. I caught a few on aHorny Toad and Pop R ( two nice fish) but the bite was slow. I then moved off the deep weed edge and did much better. Ended up catching around 15-20 bass. I also gave the pan fish a try but didn't have much success with them.
  3. Nice to see you're hitting them again, I may have to give the lakes a try. I tend to fish the river for walleyes and smaller lakes for panfish.
  4. Haven't hit any eyes on deep divers yet, only using very heavy bottom bouncers or jigging spoons. Riggers also work but are tough to fish with changing bottom structure, try fishing near the bottom. Also keep your speed slow trolling into the current. I'm barely moving up river in heavy current I also do most of my fishing at night ior low light t hours.Things should only improve over the next two months. Also the ones I've got have been in 30-65 fow.
  5. Hit the St Lawrence this morning and got 2 walleyes. One 19" and the other 23". We also picked up a few bass. Hit them in about 35 fow.
  6. I agree just pain fun. I just rigged up a copper line and salmon rods but still like to fish panfish.
  7. Mike, Looks like a great day. Lots of family here till Thursday or Friday. Just rigged a copper line and will try to get out when possible. Till then I'll be hitting the river for walleyes or hitting some local lake.
  8. Artificals mostly. Gobies will gobble up live worms
  9. I hit a local Indian River Lake this morning and had a ball. No depth finder, GPS, Down riggers, wire dipsies, copper wire, planing boards ...... Just my Gheenoe,, a 6 hp, a paddle, an anchor, a fly rod and some poppers. Although I enjoy fishing for all species it's good to get back to grass roots low tech fun. Oh and I was hitting bluegills on every cast. A mix of all sizes but I kept enough nice ones for a couple meals.
  10. Yep we use to catch many in water up to 100 feet and caught some eels as well. I haven't hit any eels in a while. So many gobies I never use worms anymore but the bass love them and grow big.
  11. Watermelon, or bass wacky Senko.
  12. We caught a great bunch of bass on the St Lawrence this morning many were over 16" also caught a nice pike.
  13. My kids will be home for a visit but I'll be out early mornings. I've tried trolling shallow a couple times early morning without success so far this year. Usually I find that method is good early and move to deeper water after sun is up. I didn't even see any glowing eyes with my spotlight but that will change. Feel free to contact me as I'm on the water a lot.
  14. Up early this morning to beat the heat. Hit many small and largemouths in 4-10 fow. kept a limit that were deep hooked and let many others go. We caught well over 20 bass and quit by 9:30. Most were 13-18" fish. I actually caught 8 fish while talking to my daughter on speaker cell phone
  15. Sh's certainly been there before. I put her against most guys I take fishing.
  16. Fished bass this morning and saw a ton of gills so went back with the fly rod tonight and caught 15 nice ones.Lots of fun.
  17. Fished a local small lake and limited out in a couple hours. My wife Donna was on fire this morning and caught the two largest ones 15 and 16 1/2 " Senkos did the trick. It's always a great morning when you share the outdoors with your spouse. We saw a couple deer on the drive to the lake, heard a turkey gobbling and saw five loons frolicking together.
  18. I fished a small lake yesterday morning and there were swarms of gills off the edge of weed beds. A mix of sizes but there were some big ones. Took home around 20 for the table but I want to go back and try them on my fly rod. Also hit some largemouths which I released, one about 18". I may have to try to catch them on Saturday.
  19. First walleye of the year on the river (23"). Hit him in 65' on a jigging spoon. Perfect size for a meal and hopefully the first of many. I also hit some smallmounths in the same depth water but they were returned till tomorrow. Surprised they are that deep this early but things seem to be in the summer mode.
