  1. River is also very warm. There seem to be two groups of smallies in the river. Some seem to stay shallower in the 15-30 foot range but many go deep in August and they are definitely tightly schooled on bait. I've caught them 125 feet down.
  2. I got the bass deeper (65-75 feet) but didn't fish for them till later in the morning.. Walleyes I caught were 25-40 feet. Caught the bass on 1 oz. drop shots and walleyes trolling sticks.
  3. I woke at 4:00 and decided to hit the river. Caught two walleyes (20" and 25") and a limit of bass before the tourist took over.
  4. Dipsy would pull hard in the current.
  5. Glad your catching some. I haven't tried lead core but I think the current would play havoc. I've been thinking of trying wire with homemade bottom bouncers instead of braid. Down riggers work but it's tough to fish them by myself.
  6. Great catch. Guess it's time to hit the walleyes.
  7. Thanks for a good report. Don't see many out of Henderson\.
  8. I got skunked on walleyes this morning but did pick up a few smallies while trolling.
  9. Nice post. I'm trying to decide where to fish tomorrow. May try walleyes out of Kingston, Ontario.
  10. I have had doubles on a single rod a couple times but also caught one laker on two rods. It had both spoons in it's mouth off the riggers.
  11. I was camping with family down river by Lisbon Beach and tried to see if I could get any walleyes going. Tied trolling some. (too many floating weeds) and jigging spoons and even casting from 5-45 fow with nothing to show but a pike. Back to home waters later this week and a possible run to Canada for salmon or walleyes on Saturday.
  12. Yesterday I hit a 19', two 23" and a 29' walleyes. This morning I only caught one 25".
  13. Woke up very early this morning so decided to hit the river. I had a limit of walleyes by 5:30 AM. I actually caught four ( culled one) and had a couple others on. Also caught a couple bass and a drum that I thought was a walleye. Fish were pretty shallow and active. They should be available for a while now.
  14. I have an 18' Lund Alaskan also and they are great boats for fishing and ducks! What is yours powered with? I have a 60hp Mercury 4 stroke and a 9.9 kicker for safety. It's fine most of the time but with a heavy load it may be a little underpowered. However, it is great on gas economy, trolls very well and is quiet.
  15. Most were in the 12-15" range.
  16. Either at Pine Grove or Mexico State launch. Pine Grove is about 10 miles north of Mexico and just south of the Salmon River. Selkirk Shores State park is between them but there is no launch there. Both are state owned and Mexico is the better launch and closer to Mexico Bay.
  17. I've been hitting some local lakes and have been very successful using 1" Berkley Gulp off a small jighead on the deep edge of weed beds. I've seen a lot of fry in the lakes and these must mimic them. Generally the larger ones are underneath the smaller fish. Small crappies are also gobbling them up. Natural color seem to work the best for bluegills and the crappies like the chartreuse. The 2' Berkly Powerbaits also are working well and also take some nice bass in the mix. I seldom use bait on panfish anymore.
  18. I fished the river this morning and got skunked on walleyes. Lots of floating weeds made trolling very tough. Friday the 13th must have my number!
  19. Panfisher, I checked the vomerine teeth, the number of spines on the dorsal fin and did DNA analysis and I'm fairly certain it was a walleye, although you never know for certain with the possibility of hybridization. There are a bunch of fleas in the river also.
  20. It's a beautiful area and a great place to fish.
  21. I fished the River solo this morning and although I only caught two fish they were beauties. 29" walleye and 18" smallmouth both hit trolled crankbaits. Had two others on that came unbuttoned. Unfortunately the walleye was bleeding and caught in deep water and I could not release her. Even tried running my aerator in the live well for an extended time but she remained belly up and could not be revived.
  22. Hit Butterfield Lake early this morning trying to catch a surface bite. I caught a few on aHorny Toad and Pop R ( two nice fish) but the bite was slow. I then moved off the deep weed edge and did much better. Ended up catching around 15-20 bass. I also gave the pan fish a try but didn't have much success with them.
  23. Nice to see you're hitting them again, I may have to give the lakes a try. I tend to fish the river for walleyes and smaller lakes for panfish.
